EmpireTech NVR / 5442 S3 Cams - Webplugin Not Functioning in Edge Browser

I switched to Brave. I learned from another poster that you just have to close the plugin message even though it's installed. Still not perfect because certain functions don't work 100%

In case anyone cares, Firefox works perfectly. So, I've switched to that.

Are you absolutely sure and how long have you tested them for? What tends to happen with browsers other than IE, is they all "work". It's just after you save changes and come back a couple of weeks later, you can find the changes haven't been implemented / reverted despite a confirmation on exit saying they have. Particularly affected seem to be changes to compression ie Bit rates, Codecs and Streams. I forget the number of times I've set 15,000K as the bit rate on the main stream, 2nd stream as the chosen stream on the sub stream, resolution of 1080p on the sub and a bit rate of 8000k on the sub only to find that any one of those paramsters has changed - frequently on the sub it changes to low resolution or stream source entirely to sub stream 1 from 2, in non IE browsers. All changes look fine when you exit. It's only some time after you tend to discover they have changed. I love Firefox and use Brave to browse news sites to stop pop ups. However, I've yet to see anyone recommend anything other than Pale Moon or IE as a good means of saving changes in Dahua cameras. Even then for me, I reverted to IE as it was the only consistent browser in my experience.

there is another possibility.

on modern (UI5) cams webplugin is not a webplugin any more.
Modern browsers from many years don't support any web plugins..
the only browser who have any support is old Internet Explorer (using ActiveX technology).

on modern browsers webplugin is done as Windows web service.
it runs in background and works as a web server / proxy server on your local addresss (http://localhost:some_high_port_number).
it converts RTSP web streams from camera/NVRs on the fly to the format accepted by modern web browsers.

camera/NVR UI5 web interface detects it and switch to mode, where web service proxy is used. If it not work, you have empty video player boxes..

Maybe some Windows security updates blocked that web service? Or any update to Windows firewall (defender) blocked access to it?

Microsoft non stop sends windows/firewall updates...

Yes I understand it’s not a traditional web plugin, but the Triple view did ask and depending on browser, still nag you to run websocketserver or web video server.

And Yes as noted it could well be a Windows issue. Specifically Win11 it seems

I mean, I've been using Firefox now for just a day...regularly logging into the UI and the features all work so far. Could that change? Entirely possible.

This wasn’t a browser specific event. It affected all browsers.

To temporarily resolve,
I went to task manager and ended the service websocketserver,
then went to the webreq/torch folder and deleted the most recent folder.
Then reboot the computer.

A 2nd reboot of the computer and verifying websocketserver was not running has restored things to normal.

Had Andy ask me if the PTZ3E10X-T180 with auto-tracking actually zooms while following. Verified, that it does.
But man... the web plugin issue.
Just what IS the issue with monthly issues with Dahua web plugin? Which, I assume all web plugins have to jump thru hoops every time there is something in the Microsoft world when it updates something. I only experience Dahua S3 NVR/cams for any web plugin.
I know when we programmed Toshiba business phone systems, the GUI for the phone system programming manager went haywire every so often, especially since Toshiba used Microsoft's .net framework & plug ins due to security & database reasons.

What is it about plug ins that gives Windows, Microsoft Edge, and Dahua a feeling like I am watching Game Of Thrones filled with deceit & betrayals?
