My Security Camera Journey – Learning That Prevention Is Better Than Reaction​

This was my first real experience understanding how much of a difference security cameras can make for a business.

At first, I thought CCTV was only useful after something had already happened. I assumed it was just about recording video in case of theft or vandalism. But once I started learning more, I realized it's much more than that.

The first installation taught me that camera placement matters just as much as the cameras themselves. Blind spots can leave important areas unprotected, while the right coverage can improve security, employee safety, and day-to-day operations.

Over time, I learned that security cameras do much more than record footage. They help deter unwanted activity, provide valuable evidence when needed, monitor deliveries, improve workplace awareness, and give business owners greater confidence when they're away from their property.

The biggest lessons I learned were surprisingly simple:

• Plan camera locations before installation instead of adding cameras later.
• Choose image quality that captures important details, not just movement.
• Regularly check recordings and system health to ensure everything is working properly.
• Secure remote access so you can monitor your property from anywhere.
• Maintain your system with software updates and routine inspections.

A well-designed security camera system isn't just another business expense—it's an investment in protecting people, property, and peace of mind.

Now I see security cameras as more than surveillance tools. They're an essential part of running a safer, smarter, and more secure business.

The footage isn't just video—it tells the story of what matters most.

I purchased some IPC-T54IR-ZEB-S3 cameras in March 2024 from you. I wanted to know if there is any updated firmware for these cameras that I should consider.

Also I have a N54B3P NVR that is running V4.002.0000000.5.R (7/29/22). Is there an update for this? I looked at your website but I really don't understand what would be correct and whether I should take the chance of updating.

I just purchased a new system from Empire tech ... My existing 5 yr old lorex is giving me too many false alarms ... hope this works better .. it's mostly from cloudy windy days the shadows the camera sees... today it work well it's cloudy ...

Is there any way to look at my whole screen - there is a ad that takes up about a 1/4 of the bottom of my screen (with a triangle and 3 dots)

Thank you Mike - I am a complete beginner at this. I want to move away from SWANN NVR which just literally "smoked" today and 2 months ago the brick "smoked" - replaced by an industrial grade power supply (same volts). The camera work and ping immediately when connected but I just cant view the streak - tried via VLC and RTSP (had a chat bot help me with commands as I personally know zero) - thank you

I am looking for a 40x or 45x optical ptz, 16x digital, 1.8 sensor, 8mp, however physical size is the problem. I came across a IndiNatus 8 MP 45X Starlight IR PTZ Camera Model No.: IN-PT7B56P-40X also a VNS Video Network Security Model No.: PPD8X40R3XLVTC. Both of these appear to be the same camera. Also a Honeywell HC60WZ8R40WI would work but according to the specs it doesn’t seem to be quite as good in low light. The physical size of these three are idea and the specs seem perfect for my needs. Could you possibly get one of these?

Hi Andy, I'm trying to buy 2x EmpireTech IPC-T54IR-AS-S3 1/1.8, but your website says they won't ship to my address (UK). I bought earlier model 5442s a few years back via amazon.de. can you advise how best to buy? One of my 5442s has broken and i want to replace it before they sell out!
