EmpireTech aka Dahua LPR Settings

Thanks - is this focus speed section to adjust? I just found the speed that you and Flintstone61 were referring to I believe.

You cannot set a focus for the nighttime during the day as the focus is different for many of us using infrared, so at night you need to have a car stop in the center of the field of view or have someone hold a plate in the center of view so that you can manually set the focus.

You need to set the focus in the GUI to manual and not auto or semi-auto.

It is from the main live screen that you can manually adjust the focus and set the speed to 1 from the default 20.

Please see the attached video, it's actually a car pulling out of the driveway slowly but as you can tell the image is not very clear of the plate.

Now in terms of having no detection through Unifi AI port at night, that seems to be an issue others have noticed. Still I would like to be able to clearly read the plate as I have another camera notifying me of activity so I can always go to the timestamp on this LPR one.

I still need to double check the focus at night as AWS is down, seems like my teleport feature to connect to my machine remotely is down for now.

Thanks!

I'm posting another video of a car that just came by, I have not made any tweaks yet. As you can tell I could not read the motorcycle, but this car was readable if I pause the video.

Waiting to get access to remotely adjust settings further. Would appreciate which settings I should adjust.

for some reason another video attachment is not posting, so another car - pasting screen shot from the video on current quality

Thats not a full res Main stream image? Or bad substream image?

Go to the Video tab and make sure your settings are like mine exactly

You know you can't digital zoom these right? The full res full size image is it. Any more and you're just gonna get a mess

Also not sure what you're zoomed in on, but there's probably 30+ft difference between the close curb and that motorcycle.
Focus isnt that forgiving.

Most of my nighttime screencaps should get you very close.
Possible minor adjustments are
Iris
NR
Contrast
Sharpness

Think in terms of small changes and one setting at a time so you can see how it behaves.

You can stretch this process out over a few weeks or park your car with the plate in the capture zone and dial it in in an hour or so

+1 above. These are not infinity focus and my focus value number is a spread of 10 from one end of the field of view to the other, so I go with the number in the center.

If you have vehicles that may not pass thru the whole field of view, that adds another variable.

here's the video of that image. I hope it loads as earlier the clip would not attach

You're not zoomed enough, but yeah it needs some work.

Try backing off sharpness and contrast a bit. Mebbe increase Iris a bit, and NR down another 5 points

Cul-de-sac's are tough. Too much distance across to get good focus over the entire area

Best bet is the bottleneck. Zoom enough to get good plates there and you can usually pick up others closer, even if a little blurry/out of focus

X is my ideal capture. But by aiming so that I get more area closer to the camera (Note: X isn't in the center of my coverage) I get a lot of plates before they get to X or go wide of it.

Due to vehicles that park and max zoom losing focus on this older Z12, I can't zoom to just the chokepoint as I'd like, so this actually works pretty well
