Worlds First Review - Dahua DH-IPC-HDW5849H-ASE-LED / IPC-Color4K-T - 2.8mm Turret

My new 4K-T is running firmware V3.140.0000000.32.R, Build Date: 2025-01-15, is it safer to stay on this or upgrade to latest 0.38

I have read quite a bit of the thread, so should probably go back over it, being lazy. Only immediate thing I notice is the mic sounds a bit like water being poured over it. - that will probably be the mic picking up the pond pump/filter  it's been a long day!

In the meantime I am now waiting for daylight to see how this camera looks :thumb:
Too funny, my cameras have picked up some strange sounds over the years. Stray Cats crying at night are my favorite.

My IPC-Color4K-T came with V3.120.0000000.12.R, Build Date: 2023-01-05 and has never been updated. I barely changed any settings when I got it and haven't changed anything since. The mic isn't great, that's for sure. But the image is excellent 24/7/365 for an overview camera.

Too bad the idiots at Dahua couldn't figure out that the camera was and still is a winner and could be a Gold Medal camera with a few updates. Instead, most of their development funds go toward the marketing department which really comes up with some dumb-ass names like Wiz . . . as in Piss. :poop:

I just bought another just to have a backup
I may be buying one for a backup too, along with four IPC-B52IR-Z12EB-S2 cameras for backups. If it ain't broke, don't fix it, right? :)

This link led me to a review of the AI Bullet not the AI DSLR

The camera appears to be very good but I have not been very impressed with UI’s ability to do detections at night.

I wasn't impresded with the daytime picture, Night was impossible to assess due to there being no camparison in the video I linked between the night picture, the actual light as seen by an eye and another known camera. Overall not impressed. It maybe there isn't a great low light sensor between 1" and 35mm, I wouldn't know as not that into photography to know the cameras out there.

4kt still the low light king at reasonable price albeit with some drawbacks.

Ok, no problem, I will leave alone for now. Just seen comments on wind noise, that could make sense, I will add some foam on each mic to test that tomorrow. It is actually fine, now I realised the source of the noise :rofl: see above post - actually seems very sensitive compared to my other cams so all good.

Put some foam on the mic. Turn the sensivitiy down! That seems counter intuitive but in my experience the mics are turned way too far up in terms of gain and there appears to be distortion as a result. The mics aren't great though in the 4kt.

That's actually given me a feature request idea for BI - a graphic equaliser for the sound. Maybe it's possible to even the response externally for a more normal sound response.

Question, does the 4K-X bullet variant have LED's for both near and far, ie are these controlled separately in the UI or simply just adjustment for all four together? Wondering because I might try one or even the turret with some sort of DIY shield to stop wide glare, depending on the control or lack of. I have a location near roadside looking down, be better if less glare for vehicles.

Trying to decide between the IPC-Color4K-T and IPC-T54IR-AS-S3 and having a heck of a time. This is quite the discussion thread (haven't finished reading it all yet). Hoping I can get some help.

I'm putting two cams on either side of the garage looking onto the driveway in each corner. I measured the end of the drive diagonal to where the camera would be mounted and it's 40ft. and a vehicle parked at the top of the drive the passenger/driver door would be about 9-11ft from the camera (diagonal). My main target area would be someone coming onto the property, but we also get wildlife walking down the street and on the neighbours yard accross and so I would like to have something that would give a decent image/video clip in those situations as well. I would prefer the color night rather then using IR for B/W. Which from reading means I should lean to the 4K but I worry about the dreaded focus. I also feel like I should be going 8MP to stick with newer tech, but it seems this is less an issue in the security cam space.

Very limited use so far but with a 4K-T 2.8mm mounted around 8-10 feet high, I would say focus on a person 7-10ft distance can still be better than my previous 5442 2.8mm turret (similar to S3), even though technically the 4K-T isn't perfectly in focus! I guess due to the 8MP effect. Seems like 8-10ft could be an acceptable minimum distance from what others have found. Others who know more will advise further.

That is great thank you, another purchase then! looks like this is running the older UI, the 4K-T recently acquired uses the newer interface.

.Depends on how much light you have

Inside of 6ft the softness is real. 8-15 or 20 is great

Mine worked great for my driveway, but forget getting good ID out past 25ft from a 3.6mm lens even 4K
(100 watt bulbs in the coach lights that stayed on at night helped. Onboard LEDs are not on;)

We had a Street Light close too, like yours. Even though it is not direct light, I believe it is what helped me keep my IRs off and go with Color at night for my 5442 2.8mm S1...did have a Garage/Porch light On (60-75 watt changed a few times) but there was not enough light to Id anyone walking the street, Recognize maybe, but only if we knew the person....But it definitely worked to Id someone in our driveway, which is why I put the camera up in the first place. Vehicle break-ins, mainly kids, were going on there...

I will say this, I know we are all stuck with these LED bulbs today, but when I would use an Incandescent Bulb, IMO, the lighting seemed better, crisp if that is a good description, but more yellow than blue :) A Full Moon helped too, guess that is a gray light, lol

This is with No Porch Light and No IR, crazy how good these cameras are in low light...

Plan was to put another Garage Light on other corner but moved before we did (oh and to fix that blinding Porch light :):

Wish I kept more pictures of our old house...I had much better pics...oh well, hope this helps. The more lighting the better, IMO...

Many people had a 5442, replaced with a 4K, and then went back to the 5442 and made the 4K-T an overview camera to get color and the 5442 in IR to get detail.
Agree, the IR, if you had it set right, not blasting, worked great on the 5442s. Dang, wish I had kept more pics, the one we had in our backyard I kept IR On, it was real crisp...left the IR off in the front, it worked for me in what I was trying to capture...

Crossing cameras on a driveway are a must. I learned not to worry about the street/sidewalk if I wanted good close in ID on my property and around my vehicles.
Street and sidewalk came second and often requires another camera with higher zoom

Trying to decide between the IPC-Color4K-T and IPC-T54IR-AS-S3 and having a heck of a time.
I have five 4K T's and also have 3 IPC-T541R-ZE-S3 cams among others. I wish all my 4K T's were the T541R-ZE-S3 cams with external IR. They are just super crisp at night and for me they are easier to look at. Don't get me wrong, my 4K T's do a good job. I have the onboard lighting off and use LED soffit lighting with each camera which works well. I just like the IPC-T541R-ZE-S3 cams alot since I installed them last year.

If the onboard LEDs were motion activated or by IVS it would be perfect.
I have a mixture of both because there are places you just can’t get enough light to and the onboard lights are problematic in some scenes

Is it too big of a wish that maybe a future firmware update would give us that? :p

It has been asked. It appears Dahua has moved on from these 4K cams to the new PRO series.

I have found a way to "hack it" using BI to have another camera's trigger turn on the lights of the 4K-T via API

I am pretty sure I documented that in this thread somewhere LOL.
