I just did the upgrade to 6.1.1.4 on my three BI systems and it had no issues, are you using NGROK on your system, I do not use NGROK!

no I haven't even tried AI yet but I started having problems about three weeks ago right after an update. random cameras would go off line, most of the cameras recorded very little overnight some cameras had no alerts at all

That is wildly bizarre. Easiest way I know of to "accidentally" set a different desktop background image would be right clicking an image file and choosing "Set as desktop background". To reset the background otherwise it would be Windows Settings app > Personalization > Background and nobody does that by accident.

As for the screenshot with NGROK mentioned in it, that is not a full frame screenshot so we don't really understand the point.

I even tried loggin in to the phone app and UI3 and it said I did not have permission to do so

I was able to restore ,my desktop as it appeared when I started that update by restore icons and restore the background I was using at that time, I have no reasonable explanation of why my desktop started looking like the pictures as above. I still do not have a working BI desktop so I can not use the help file or the log files

This actually feels like one of those pranks where someone screenshots your desktop, sets it as the desktop background, then hides your desktop icons and taskbar.
Yes, it reminds of a time about 10 years ago the fad for malware was to fill your screen with a image of an authentic looking BSOD with a 800 number to call to fix it! :winktongue:

That suggests you opened a .reg file, not Blue Iris. Although that looks like some kind of Blue Iris dialog box behind the dialog from Windows. Either way, we have no idea what you did still. It is looking more and more like your system is very much FUBAR and you should back up your important files, wipe it, and start over.

is there a way to delete and reinstall BI? without access to the BI desktop I can't get my license key

I would also suggest that once you get BI running to copy the license key to a text file and store it in a safe place (USB Drive) perhaps along with a copy of the current or recent full install file!

I get this
Look, that dialog mentions C:\BlueIris\backup.reg, so either you clicked something that isn't the Blue Iris binary shortcut, or maybe more likely, BI is trying to restore it's registry backup after the update went a bit sideways.

Also BTW, by the looks of things, are you running Blue Iris on a general usage PC?

That would probably explain the reason for many of his posts being about his system getting hacked.

In addition to using the computer just for BI, one shouldn't update unless BI adds something they want. Otherwise you are a beta tester, which is needed and we appreciate people doing it!

@Coldair ,
Can you run System Restore to go back to an earlier date, before the mess?

What do you mean "without access to the BI desktop"??? What have you been taking pictures of all this time?
that is your UI3 program I can't get the BI desktop to open up

Just to clarify and help everyone out in this thread, when you say "BI desktop", do you mean:

A) The "desktop" machine (PC) you are using to run BI as a whole.
B) The Windows Desktop on the PC you are using to run BI.
C) The Blue Iris Desktop Client Application - the "Windows GUI" you open to control BI, change camera settings, and view the live view (as an alternative to UI3).

I suspect C, but it would help if you could confirm.

Your PC may be fine, and you just have a BI issue. How about; Disable the BI service (services.msc), reboot PC, check, does everything other than BI function normally? This would indicate that you have a healthy PC with a knackered BI install; no idea why it set the error message as your desktop background though, perhaps Ken could answer that one.

Have you checked any event logs (Windows) on the PC?
