Dahua WizColor 5x59-PRO and SmartLight 5x59-IL new series

Nothing wrong with a good IR image until the subject gets close enough to use the white LED's.

I think this will be the biggest problem folks come to ask about becasue they think they can run color at night without enough light.

In your second video running 1/30, its useless for ID until you are right on top of the camera and the white lights kick in.
Better to have a good IR image out on the sidewalk than a dark blob. Use the IR thats what its there for.

Don't fight physics

I have seen about everything in the hood, been here for 43 years. I have had gone the motion light route and found it just draws more attention to my house than if it just stays dark. It's the main reason I even turn off my little porch Malibu lights. When it's very late it's better to just let them walk by and don't ask for their attention. This is why I run Color mode on my big PTZ as they can't see it following them when it about tracks. The cam in the other corner of porch runs IR. I like the fact that even there is some motion blur, I can tell what color of clothes or car that drives by. I will definitely keep playing with some of your ideas and do appreciate all the feedback!

Wow, I am learning so much by following this thread. Read your comment about turning AFSA on and configured it for two of my cameras. Just did a walk test and was amazed at what it does. Didn't even know it existed. Thanks!

On my house I also keep the front dark, except between 11pm and 6am. One of the cameras is focused on the steps leading down into my yard, and if someone crosses that tripline, it sends an alarm signal to the NVR which then tells Alexa to turn on ALL the outside lights around the house and initiate a bunch of sounds from outside speakers. Definitely works as a deterrent.

Would love a video of this as well. Sounds like a great deterent.

This is the tripline that sends the message to the NVR when someone walks down the steps late at night. The Alarm output on the NVR is connected to a switch which sends a wireless signal to a Smartthings hub, which then connects to Alexa to activate several Philips Hue lights. Here is a video of the first time I set it up. It is much more elaborate now. I guess I should make a new video of it at work.

That's hilarious @tmxv4128 ... and any dirtbag walking up your steps would be OMG, I'm outa here!

Love the "Lost in Space" reference ... and if it is "much more elaborate now" (and not just for Halloween), FOR SURE you need to post a video of that.

Here is a little greeting for the UPS driver yesterday. I was testing out the speaker on the T54PRO-ZE.

I had a little time to play with some manual frame rates. I first tried to go 1/100 but was very dark and the IVS would not trigger. I then went to 1/60 and was lighter but still no IVS trigger. Finally I tried 1/30 and it did trigger the warm Leds. That's it for me, got my exercise in LOL

The videos do show it is very dark on my porch.

Thanks for posting more video clips, this is useful for all. Here is my take on the second video, if you would rather not run LED all the time then certainly run in IR mode, switch to LED when IVS triggers as you have it set already, get the shutter speed faster at say 1/160 or 1/200, this will allow you to hopefully freeze motion and hence ID someone if required, testing will be needed to confirm. The light levels even with LED's on concern me slightly, possibly try pushing the gain up just to test, you could also try shutter priority and see how that works out, ignore if you already tried that with lesser results.

Shutter priority at 1/160 or 1/200 minimum, IR on when dark and trigger LED's with IVS rules, would be my summary, oh and keep NR below 40 if you can, or at least below 50.

I guess in these cases maybe having one camera running IR for more distant subjects and another full colour, you get the best of both worlds, more extravagant and less appealing visually but what can you do. I have been running IR only for a long time now, until someone gets closer and floodlights trigger, it will be nice once I get the 54Pro's working to ID colour of vehicles and of course clothing in due course.
