hi everyone,
I am looking to install some CCTV. i had my builder do the pre-wiring for 8 camera points around the house.
I am looking for some suggestions what model I should go for , for the cameras and NVR and whether there is an opportunity to use a PTZ at one of the pre-wired points on the corner of the house.
I would prefer all models/NVR are the same brand, and I guess it'll depent first on the PTZ chosen?

I've attached some pictures of the house showing the 8 camera points all around the house. these have been marked with a black arrow. any white junction boxes not marked is because they are not camera data points, but standard electrical wiring for security lights.
the height of all the camera points is 2.5M except for the one next to the front door which is 2M.
I have also shown an ideal spot where I think a PTZ could work.

I’d put the PTZ higher. At the corner under the eave

attaching a couple more pics different angles

Sorry was interrupted, but PTZs generally need more height to allow them to see and detect further and get better angles for tracking .

The mini PTZ would be a good choice . Not as obvious as most and tracks well. Nighttime it needs help with external light but it looks like you have good street light coverage

I've attached here a pic based on your suggestion, is this where you mean to put it? when mounting under an eave does it needed any additional bracket or how is it supported in place?

Yes that would be my first choice. You would gain substantial coverage and less problems with being blocked by cars, trees etc

Granted thats the cleanest looking residential street I've ever seen, so maybe less of a problem. But still you'll gain detection/tracking distance. Most PTZs are spec'd to be mounted higher than our fixed cameras

The 5442 series currently

The 5442 series is sold as the 54IR series by @empiretechandy and he serves many customers down under.

I assure you they are not sold out and reach out to him via DM for a quote.

Many here prefer the 3.6mm or the varifocal.

Make sure you buy the right one for the distance you want to IDENTIFY.

a couple other qs I have:
with the height of the ptz being under the eave, will i still be able to capture number plates?
will i be able to update firmware on the cameras, I imagine thats required after unboxing them or in future when they're released?

i did direct empiretechandy and he's helping with a quote.

looks like i will need the 16 channel nvr to cater to the 8 pre wired fixed cam locations and the 1 x ptz.

the nvr only has 8 x PoE ports but i have 9 cameras. so im thinking if i should use a PoE injector for the 9th one or can i run it via another poe switch then into the nvr?
also is 2*8TB ok for the storage or the nvr or is it too much ?

If you want to capture plate you need to set up a camera specifically for plates, especially at night. You may capture some during the day, but the field of view to capture plates reliably needs to be not much bigger than a car. And at night you need to run fast shutters so the image will be too dark for anything but the plate.

And except for a few unique situations a PTZ is a bad choice for dedicated plate reading as you cannot manually set the focus like a fixed camera.

Most here do not update firmware. Don't fix what ain't broke. If the camera is working for your needs don't update as it may remove a feature you use or brick the device.

Buy a 16 channel NVR that has POE to all ports.

You can never have too much money, sex, or hard drive space

Buy a Netgear 8 port poe switch. Use that. The 9th cam plugs into it along with the NVR and future added cameras. Or as @wittaj says, buy a NVR with 16 Poe ports

You’re not going to use that PTZ for plates. It won’t work. If you ea t to capture plates you will need dedicated cameras for each direction. They will be useless for the most part other than capturing plates.

for the fixed lens cameras, should I get 2.8mm or 3.6mm ?

3.6 in most cases. Especially at your doorways. You do have cameras planned for your doorways right?

I like this. Do you think I can put one here in attached pic where I originally marked it for a ptz. I feel I could just put a dedicated lp camera here. What sort of camera would it be

You’ll have to look at direction and angle. Maybe. Generally you don’t want more than 30 degree angle. So think in terms of the target area being 50-100 ft from the camera to get a reasonably straight shot.

The Z12 is the go to camera for this. Andy will know what that is.

And you’ll need 2, one for each direction, they don’t move
