So I had a break-in on my property (10/14). I reviewed all the cameras, then right-clicked and selected "protect," which locks icon apeared, and I believe a flag was triggered. I then proceeded to call police the police and I showed the marked video. They asked for a thumb drive of the file - and did report. Now TODAY 10/21 they called and asked to see the video because they could not read the format.

I CAN NOT locate the files?!!! Where did they go? I can Find the other camera for that day in "stored" and Found 2 Alert thumb nails....That is it? how do I find these?

Try using the 'Special views' view in the Clips list. If necessary, select 'Protected items'

And if you do find the specific clips you are looking for, try right-clicking the thumbnail image. Then select 'Edit memo', and add an easy to search string like 'break-in'

Sorry about the break-in. Once you find the clips with the Protected items view jaydeel mentioned, I'd give the police an MP4 instead of the BVR file. Right-click the clip in the clips list, choose Export, and set the format to MP4 before exporting. Pretty much any police or media player opens MP4 without extra software, while BVR really only plays in Blue Iris or that web player.

If more than one camera caught it, export a copy from each, and leave the originals protected until the case is closed.

What version of BI are you on? Seem to recall a post ages ago where protected clips didn't work as expected.

After the event I know but I've never trusted protected clips since way back when protecting a clip and then finding out that a DB rebuild would remove that protection.

Not tried since to be fair but ever since I always take a copy of the BVR file(s) containing the footage and save it away to another location.

Once again a reminder, practice giving the police video files that they can read without problems BEFORE you actually need to do it for real.
This allows you to test and make sure everything works as you plan.

How would you practice that? I'm sure here in the UK I'd probably get arrested if I randomly offered CCTV footage to a random policeman :)

Yes Release 5.9.9.98..

I had 5 different camera videos- I protected them and flagged them to show the police. I guess once again it's my fault. I selected "Export" and selected the Police USB drive . -I EXPECTED "Protected"."Flag" would keep them safe (GUESS NOT). Everything was good until the files were in BVR format, 7 days later, and the police deleted the USB drive as unreadable.

The police asked for another "readable format." The Files were gone from my storage- gone forever, I guess. BI "tech support" just gave me a cut-and-paste from the BI manual. I had a few email exchanges with tech support- I have storage to move files from my local drive (fast storage) to my NAS storage after 7 Days. (My NAS can store over 400 days) -The Files are gone. So "Export" of flagged Protected files means "delete forever".

Gee seriously? Export a portion of a file, move it to a flash drive, then see if you can view it from the flash drive. It's not rocket science.
Practice it often enough you don't have to fumble around to get the job done.
Export it in MP4 format.

You guys need to grow a pair and take your country back.
