What the Flock is going on here!

Looks like an empty effort for headlines targeting the uneducated voter before midterms as it’s said 95% of the cameras are not on State Hwy right of ways.

I suspect we’ll see a lot if this as it’s easy for incumbent politicians to get behind knowing it has minimal effect.

My own County has supposedly banned them but like this order, the details matter and I’ve not seen the actual order.

Yeah, it's all just a big top show. These politicians are NOT about to refuse free money. After the elections, it will be a 180-degree spin and you'll see these things at every corner, every driveway, and anywhere else they can think to put them. You won't be able to fart without someone knowing it.

They’ll switch to Axon and hope nobody notices

It’s not just Flock.

And Flock is probably not the one to watch

Long article

I wonder who is paying the power bill that energizes the LPR camera and radio along with the street light? If it's the street light owner (utility company or local munipality), are citizens accessed an amount to cover that cost either on property taxes, individual power bill, HOA dues, etc. ?

If people are already being accessed or billed for the street light it should be a flat rate to cover only the cost of energy and maintenance for the street light. It should NOT include the cost of energy for the camera and radio so that rate should not increase. One may think it's a miniscule amount but the camera/radio will be on 24/7 unlike the street light which is only energized from dusk to dawn.....and there potentially could be a LOT of them!

Most of the ones I see along the main State roads have their own solar panels

Understood.
The ones I was referring to plugged into the NEMA twist-lock photocell socket atop the street light to get their power as described in the article on X:

Excerpt:

"The Axon Lightpost, developed in partnership with Ubicquia, is a surveillance camera designed to plug directly into the NEMA 7-pin photocell socket — the industry-standard fitting found on top of over 350 million street lights worldwide. That socket has been on lamp poles for 60 years. It traditionally houses a simple light sensor that turns the lamp on at dusk and off at dawn. Axon replaced the light sensor with an AI-powered license plate reader. The device draws regulated AC power (up to 480V) directly from the municipal electrical grid. It requires no solar panel, no new pole, no trenching, and no specialized electrical permitting. Installation takes less than fifteen minutes and can be performed by a utility worker with no network engineering skills.Once energized, it operates autonomously. A built-in LTE modem provides persistent cellular connectivity to Axon's cloud ecosystem, entirely independent of municipal Wi-Fi or on-site network infrastructure. The unit is encased in IK10-rated vandal-resistant housing, carries an IP66 weather rating, and survives hurricane-force winds up to 150 miles per hour. It operates continuously in temperatures from -40°F to 140°F.The camera module — an Axis Q1800-LE — captures license plates across multiple traffic lanes at distances up to 328 feet, on vehicles traveling at speeds up to 155 miles per hour, at 1080p resolution and 90 frames per second. It looks like a street light."

Oh, someone usually knows it, with or without cams. Either farts are being crop dusting spread directly in your face, barking creeping spiders in the corner of the room or they are just creeping spiders in the middle of church or in the next grocery aisle in Walmart. Either way, everyone in the room will eventually know it. :thumb::poop:
