IVS setup advice on 270 degree view? PTZ

Setup: Cam link here
  • Mount: on a bracket about 24" off the right corner of the building, roughly [X] ft above grade
  • Coverage: ~270° of usable view
  • Key areas: front door at ~[X] ft, dumpster at ~[X] ft
  • Lighting: [IR at night / parking lot lights / etc.]

What I'm trying to do:
  1. Run a 270° tour once per hour, then return to a home preset covering the door and dumpster.
  2. When a human is detected, auto-zoom in tight on them.

Questions:
  1. Is this best done with a Tour vs. an Auto Scan, and does the Idle Motion / auto-home timer reliably pull it back to the preset after the tour?
  2. Does IVS keep working during the tour, or do I need SMD/AI Tracking instead since IVS rules are tied to a fixed preset?
  3. For the zoom-in behavior — is Auto Tracking the right tool, or should I use a tripwire/intrusion rule with a linked preset?

Once per hour sounds not much. Leaves most of the sector outside the surveillance for most of the time. I should put 2 extra basic bullet cameras as spotter cams and configure PTZ linkage in the NVR to command PTZ to turn to desired preset when IVS is triggered in a spotter cam.

My personal opinion:
Depends what your overall goal is here, eg, overall security, intrusion, illegal dumping, building protection, parking lot protection, etc.
I believe you are trying to do too much with a single camera. as oh6hfx mentioned above, the best approach is to have 2 or 3 extra cameras used as spotter cameras, that provide uninterrupted coverage of an area 24/7. Using a PTZ to cover multiple areas leaves coverage gaps, IVS rules only work if the camera is pointed at the Tripwire/Intrusion zone. Use the PTZ as your "security guard" meaning, zoom in on perpetrator, vehicle, follow a person, etc, based on triggered alarms by the spotter cameras. Remember cameras are nowhere perfect, meaning if the PTZ camera misses an IVS triggered event, from let's say the front of the building, then you won't have any coverage from a potential intrusion to the rear of the building. Hope this makes sense!
 
+1 to all of the above.

While the PTZ is actually moving during the scan, it will not autotrack.

Scanning will miss so much, and wear the camera out prematurely.

The firmware is encoded with a movement limit and some folks have hit that limit within a year.

It is much better to use fixed cameras as spotter cameras to move the PTZ so certain presets.
