Oil and Gas Prices Jump as Iran Lists Gulf Energy Targets
Bloomberg Podcasts

Mar 18, 2026 Latest Videos from Bloomberg Radio
Dan Williams, Reporter for Bloomberg News Based in Jerusalem, discusses the latest from the Middle East as Iran lists regional energy assets it plans to target in retaliation to an attack on the country's South Pars gas field.

Oil and European natural gas prices surged as Iran listed energy assets in the region that it would target in response to a US and Israeli attack on its upstream industry.
Brent oil climbed as much as 6.1% to a high of $109.75 a barrel, while Europe’s gas benchmark jumped as much as 9.1%, according to data from ICE Futures Europe.
Iran said that the US and Israel attacked the South Pars gas field, as well as associated facilities at Asaluyeh. The assets are important for domestic supply and also shipments to neigboring Iraq and Turkey. In response, Tehran issued a list of similar assets in Saudi Arabia, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates that it said residents should avoid.
The war has brought chaos across the Middle East with the stakes for energy markets rising every day. As well as effectively halting the Strait of Hormuz, the world’s most important oil-channel, the conflict has seen Iran lashing out across the region, lowering production.
The South Pars attack would mark the first on Iran’s upstream facilities since the war began. While the US struck oil export hub Kharg Island late last week, it limited that attack to military targets.
Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps responded by publishing a list of energy sites in Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Qatar that “have become direct and legitimate targets” following the attack on South Pars, the semi-official Tasnim news agency reported.

You're kidd'n right ?!?!?

Honestly, USA is really a challenge to be an Ally with ..

Just totally screwed South Korea, Japan, Philippines, Australia with this war - as well as screwing the EU / nato

Remember NATO is a defensive alliance, and when the USA was attacked on 9/11 many came to help the USA - also many came to help the USA in the Iraq wars

However, if you just pay attention to prior wars, the USA spent a ton of time and effort to get teh allies on board of the various missions as well as coordinate with them.

Since Afghanistan and the screwed up withdrawal from there, USA allies do not want to experience holding that sort of bag again and be the last person out of the building

Ask yourself, HOW long does it take to plan to provision and put a destroyer into the Gulf area ?

Ask yourself, are USA military getting support from it's allies by having them allow the use of the bases in Europe ? The airspace ? The docks ?

USA is getting help from it's allies, but they can not fix the broken glass

Trump is just passing the blame out to everyone else, and claiming the reward. WOULD you want to join that sort of person in this game ??

Nope, not kidding at all. Some are just sitting around fat, drunk and happy not understanding that it could have been months, couple of years or perhaps 10 years before their drunk stupor turned in their worst hangover with the caliphate holding the world hostage with nukes. Iran with nukes could simply play Simon Says with the Straight of Hormuz. For example, pay the tanker passage fee (Panama Canal-is) or ye shall not pass. Do this, don't do this says Simon or risk XYZ action. The regime is a terror state PERIOD. Some counties may feel screwed by the USA however we are just giving the the chemo treatment before the cancer kills them. Good luck with their treatment, hopefully they have a chance at surviving long term. Pay now or pay dearly even more down the road.

Sounds like we got a lot more invadin' death and destruction, kill 'em all to go to be safe....

Naw, we should stay fat, drunk and happy. President Newsom is gonna make it all better. Don't worry, be happy.

lol ..

I believe the Gulf Nations now want to see Iranian Regime out for good .. and publicly say "stop the war" and to Trump say "Finish this mess you started"
Of course they do as do the Europeans and other countries but they want the USA to do the heavy lifting while they spend their resources on social programs.

I highly recommend re-evaluation of this POV as Europe does not have the ability to pivot on each tweet from Trump ..

for example
Ukraine was offering help, and Trump stated "NO"

( reports show Ukraine is helping USA Israel and Gulf States out )

Think about the precision weapons the US has ..

USA can just hit the electrical generation on Kharg and stop the production

No need to damage more

What Larijani’s killing means for Iran’s power structure
Shahram Kholdi
International Security and Law Analyst

The Israeli killing of Ali Larijani marks another blow to the Islamic Republic’s capacity for coordination, weakening an already fragmented system and raising the risk of miscalculation under pressure.

Larijani’s removal would introduce immediate disruption: friction in command and pressure for retaliation. The deeper consequence may be fragmentation.

The Islamic Republic now operates less as a unified state than as a dispersed system under sustained pressure from Israel and the United States. Authority increasingly runs through provincial clerical networks, IRGC commanders and Basij structures. Resources are mobilized locally, repression enforced locally and survival managed locally.

Larijani belonged to the shrinking circle still capable of linking these fragments to a central command. His loss risks accelerating the incoherence the system is already struggling to contain.

What appears as resilience may instead reflect dispersal without coordination — a system that survives but no longer acts as one.

Larijani’s killing tests not only the state’s durability but its capacity to function as a coherent force under sustained pressure. The war may not bring immediate collapse.

Arab states urge US not to stop short in war on Iran

Several Arab states along the Persian Gulf are urging the United States not to halt its military campaign against Iran before significantly weakening the country’s military capabilities, Reuters reported Monday, citing regional officials.

Those governments did not press Washington to launch the war, the report said, but fear that ending the campaign prematurely could leave Iran able to threaten the shipping lanes, oil infrastructure and commercial hubs that underpin their economies.

What kind of leader makes decisions for his country based on humorous tweets from the mean orange man?

Trump told Ukraine NO for what quid pro quo? Are you in the know as to exactly what Ukraine wanted in exchange?

"Hey Donnie baby, we send you drone interceptors but you guarantee we no lose any territory to Russia, okay Donnie?"
