Everyone became an overnight millionaire

OK, so per-capita, we're still tons better off...
Using your words, USA is doing a ton worst than Taiwan.

The United States spends nearly 17 percent of its GDP on health care — more than any other high-income country — yet Americans live shorter and less-healthy lives than their peers. Taiwan, on the other hand, spends about 6.5 percent of its GDP to cover nearly all residents under its health care system, known as National Health Insurance (NHI).

Focus on American news?
As many as 44,789 Americans of working age die each year because they lack health insurance, more than the number who die annually from kidney disease.

From the article:
"Americans without health insurance are 40 percent more likely to die than those with private insurance."

What a gobbledygook statement that could be interpreted multiple different ways. Not to mention that everybody has the same likelihood of dying regardless of insurance.

What I paid now, for two people. $497.29 every TWO weeks. $49.729/work day.
the Question is WHY are you paying that much?

The Answer: Obamacare F'd up the entire Health Insurance market.
Like anything else the Gov't throws money at, the result is often catastrophic. Section 8 Housing money = RENTS go sky high. Government-subsidized Student Loans = Sky-High Tuition rates, since the government just keeps guaranteeing the flow of money going there.

The same thing is true of healthcare insurance. I am ON a policy through Healthcare.gov, and that policy costs me about $230/month for me and two "kids" under 26. The problem is-- that is NOT the cost of the policy--- the United States Government pays about $2,300 MORE in addition to what I pay. Before ACA, how many mediocre health insurance policies cost ~$30,000 per year just in PREMIUMS? Zero. Why did those policies go up so much? Because they COULD -- and the Gov't would pay it. What about private insurance? Why be in THAT business when you could sell mediocre policies under ACA-Obamacare and MAKE MORE MONEY. So private insurance ALL has gone up. I never heard ONE politician anywhere talk about the ACTUAL cost of those policies being paid for with Taxpayer money-- they all LIED about it, and continue to LIE about it.

I will go on Medicare in 18 months or so. I don't know what that means for my "kids" under my current ACA plan. Things will get interesting. In the meantime, people (or politicians) bitching because their ACA policy went from $15/month (with the bonus COVID subsidies) to $215/month all seem to forget that their policy ACTUALLY costs well over $2,000 per month. I heard that the Insurance companies actually AUTHORED the ACA Act--- you know-- the bill we had to PASS to see what's in it. That makes so much sense now. One Big CESSPOOL of Corruption!

I know of people who have passed earlier than they may have otherwise due to not having the money or insurance for treatment

And then there are those who need to be kept alive for political reasons... Trump to the rescue...

Trump reveals story about GOP lawmaker Neal Dunn’s health

President Trump and Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) revealed Monday that Rep. Neal Dunn (R-Fla.) received a terminal diagnosis for a heart problem, prompting concerns about the House GOP’s super-slim majority and leading Trump to connect the congressman to care at the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center.

Johnson said that the diagnosis prompted Dunn, who had already announced he would not seek reelection, to consider retiring back to Florida. A midsession resignation, though, would further strain the slim House GOP majority, posing difficulties for Republicans in Washington.

“I said, ‘That’s bad.’ Number one, it was bad because I liked him. Number two, it was bad because I needed his vote,” Trump said. “I did it for him first and for the vote second. But it was a close second, actually,” Trump added.

I'm glad Neal Dunn is feeling better, but, IMHO, it doesn't change the fact that Trump is a greedy bigmouth douche bag who does nothing unless it furthers his own interests.
