Uncle Wittja is not up to date as I do not now own any PTZ cameras

Had a bit off a hassle with my neighbours so decided to get rid to save the peace.

If you brick your camera it was DOA when you got it and within your rights to return.

FYI I bought an "SD49225T-Hn" from amazon last year and it came with this firmware:

How that worked, without bricking it?
PTZ should have another firmware. These cameras have 2 firmwares.

I think that the "SD49225 T-Hn" is just some weird regional / seller specific re-brand model. Both cameras have "SD49225" in the model number :) Works fine.
It did not even list that model #er in the webGUI or configtool so maybe it was always a ":SD49225XAN-HNR".

Thanks for the tip on the PTZ firmware, it looks like on the site that I found the main web firmware on, the latest MCU firmware is the same as what I have now:
"General_SD49XXX-HN_MCU_V2.401.0000000.64.R.200219.zip" from: https://files.imou.pl/Firmware/Kamery%20-IP-%20obrotowe-%20PTZ/AI/PTZ_MCU/

Is there even newer firmwares that you know of for either the main flash or the mcu?

The thing is, that the older model had those numbers as well. I had the 59225, before this new one.
The difference is actually in the letters.

Who knows maybe the amazon seller I got it from just removed the deviceID from the FW and called it a "SD49225T-HN" for whatever reason. This is the original listing I got mine from:
If you look at the filename for the MCU FW its 2.6.02.05.00928: General_SD49XXX-HN_MCU_V2.401.0000000.64.R.200219.zip
It would imply that it works for all SD49xxx cameras.

I also found this spreadsheet on that same site:
It appears that these models all share the same fw:

What do you guys think about this? I'd rather not brick my 49225, but I'm curious if I'd get better tracking results with a newer firmware. Of course I need to tweak the settings more before I consider upgrading, but it'd be nice to know if that's an option that won't turn my camera into an expensive paperweight.

What version do you have right now? Do keep in mind that the newest firmwares eliminate autotracking from the PTZ, so you might already have the most recent firmware that still has autotrack on it.
 
The T-HN shouldn't even have Auto Tracking.
Something weird is going on here.

It appears you pulled a fast one over the camera LOL, so I wouldn't tempt fate with yet another attempt at a firmware update LOL.

I think it was in the $300 range when I bought it and has gone up since then.
The FW upgrade doesn't scare me. I can always do a recovery via board level re-flash or something if it gets borked. I have an rt809h for that.

Apparently I also upgraded my firmware and lost the auto tracking capability. I sent a message to @EMPIRETECANDY through Amazon (purchase the Loryta SD49425XB-HNR through his Amazon store) and am waiting to hear back. Hopefully I can get the original firmware and can get back to normal. Wish I would've known to not upgrade, but then again, I wouldn't have thought to search for this topic if I didn't do it. Lesson learned.

Yep, hard lesson to learn. Fortunately you will get it back since you purchased from Andy.

A common theme around here is don't fix what ain't broke. If the unit is working and meets your needs, in many instances an update breaks what you had working and provides you with something you didn't need or bricks the camera. In most instances, updates are simply security vulnerability patches (usually years after the breach was found), but since we do not give our cameras internet access, the update is useless to us.

Here are issues I have seen people report here where they were upgrading just for the sake of upgrading:
  • A Dahua Z12E that someone updated and then constantly reboots comes to mind.
  • The Dahua 49225 and 49425 PTZ that loses autotracking with an update come to mind.
  • The Hikvision DS-2DEA425IW-DW PTZ that loses autotracking with an update comes to mind.
  • A Hikvision ANPR camera losing half the FPS and loses the ability to read US plates - those are big deals to have happen.
  • A Hikvision ANPR DS-2CD4A26FWD camera that lost all ability to read plates - kinda makes the camera useless.
  • A Hikvision camera that the user lost ability to control the LED light function at night.
  • A Hikvision wifi camera that loses the ability to use wifi after a firmware update.
  • Dahua 5442 that will not allow playback of the SD card.
  • Countless other instances where the camera or NVR simply bricked and became useless.
  • Countless examples where the camera or NVR went into Chinese.
Don't do it unless it is fixing a problem you are experiencing or adds a feature you really need.

Doing it for kicks and grins or the desire to be on the latest firmware or OCD behavior usually results in trouble...

Thanks to ljw2k for the firmware. I've installed it on the new model DH-SD49425XBN-HNR. Auto-Tracking works now but somehow some settings are missing. like the RTMP under network.

Hi, no problem at all and happy to help. First thing and most important is NEVER pay for firmware as I know some people want to charge you for it which is unacceptable and greedy. Always use the search function on the forum and you can find most things from Genuine people who are here to help.

In regards to your problem above - make sure you use IE ( Internet Explorer ) when making or doing any changes for the camera as other browsers will not work.
