Dahua Product Availability in the U.S. ends December 31, 2025

there is proposal to give FCC power to revoke existing certifications for previously approved devices.
Main target is DJI, but this can be used also to all Dahua / HIK cams / NVRs...
Notice that it says:

"Operating a device with revoked certification could become illegal", making the IPCT membership list an easy starting point for the SWAT raids.

It is a bargaining tactic from Trump. The 100% tariffs are because China is playing games with their rare earth elements and our industry uses lots of it. You will notice that Trump has been encouraging and helping the rare earth production in this country. We shall see what happens. One such place is the Mountain Pass mine in California right off of I-15 and close to the Nevada border.

I did the whole thing.

Honestly, I won't lose one wink of sleep.

This is a guy who finds vulnerabilities in Fortune 500 enterprise software. He had to make some assumptions, do a ton of pre-planning for this video and ultimately got some corrupted video. Yes he also found the camera serial number. And he showed that Dahua's P2P server was using outdated TLS 1 encryption.

He was also using an older version of SmartPSS which is why it was discontinued in July 2024 and I think was a key part of why he was semi-successful..
Its odd that he hit the P2P server on Alibaba network as I thought, and can see from my house, it goes through AWS servers and was also part of the whole security update Dahua made last summer.. Perhaps the P2P server you hit is region/location dependent.?

But this was all predicated on a man in the middle attack which isnt necessarily simple

I'm not a hacker, but while he could see the request for updated firmware, in order to use that vector and send the camera fw with a payload it would accept, he's still got a lot of work to do. The camera won't accept just anything you send it.

I'm at the limit of my knowledge, but if that guy hacks my system he deserves it.

Even DJI tries to make slightly different drones with mostly same features, but different brand, they eventually find out, and they stop them as well.

I have question for people who have access to Luminys cams / NVRs / software:

Are they fully compatible (private protocol, not ONVIF) with Dahua cams / NVRs or not?? Does not work with Private Protocol only ONVIF

Can Luminys NVR and mobile app supports fully (over private protocol) connected Dahua cams? - NO, could not even connect to dahua cams

Or vice-versa?

I read different stories about this..

ps. another question - does firmware / software is better? or simply themed into different colors Dahua copy? - The NVR GUI is similar but much more basic, not just a copy

ps2. Andy (@EMPIRETECANDY) - do you have any news here? :)

Am keeping close eye on this. Now that my low voltage cabling business is in the black, was hoping to add-in becoming an Andy Dahua (or whatever the phantom name is!) NVR/IP camera reseller/installer. Already have 3 clients lined up.
Looks like FCC meeting on Oct 28th is the determination.

Next stop is going to be paying a premium for stuff sold by Monoprice and Amazon - low priced goods are going up

US and China kick off trade talks ahead of high-stakes Trump-Xi summit

Washington describes first day of negotiations between Scott Bessent and He Lifeng as ‘very constructive’

The US and China kicked off high-stakes trade talks in Malaysia on Saturday that Washington described as “very constructive” ahead of Donald Trump’s trip to Asia for a summit with Xi Jinping.

Following weeks of mounting tensions between the world’s two biggest economies, US Treasury secretary Scott Bessent and Chinese vice-premier He Lifeng held negotiations in Kuala Lumpur that will help shape the outcome of the summit on Thursday.

This month Beijing announced sweeping export controls on rare earths, prompting Trump to threaten an extra 100 per cent tariff on Chinese imports from November 1 and raising the risk of a return to a full-blown trade war.

The talks take place a day after the US trade representative’s office launched a probe into whether Beijing had complied with a trade deal agreed in Trump’s first term, in a move that could lead to further duties on Chinese imports.

At the end of the first day of talks between He and Bessent, a Treasury spokesperson said the talks had been “very constructive”.

Trump is heading to Malaysia to meet south-east Asian leaders on the first leg of a week-long Asia trip that includes stops in Japan and South Korea, where he will meet Xi.

Speaking aboard Air Force One on his way to Malaysia, Trump said that the US and China would both have to make concessions to reach a trade deal.

“Sure they’ll have to make concessions. I guess we will too,” Trump said. “We’re at 157 per cent tariff for them. I don’t think that’s sustainable for them. They want to get that down, and we want certain things from them.”

Asked what odds he would put on imposing the additional 100 per cent levies on...
