Are these NVR's capable of auto tracking based on IVS triggers with a PTZ Dahua camera, even if the camera doesn't natively support auto tracking (i.e. the SD22204T-GN or SD29204T-GN)?

Somewhere I got the impression that some Dahua NVR’s supported Auto Track with PTZ cameras that don’t natively have Auto Track, and was thinking that the NVR52xx series might, because it says it has “3D intelligent positioning with Dahua PTZ camera” as a bullet in the specifications.
But, nothing subsequently in the NVR52xx specifications indicate Auto Track functionality (and there actually is a spot that says “Tracking Trigger Event: N/A”). So, that seems to indicate, as you mentioned, that the NVR52xx series do not support Auto Tracking with normal PTZ cameras (like HDBW5431RP-Z, SD22204T-GN or SD29204T-GN).
But #2, the NVR608 series does have “Smart Tracking and Intelligent Video” in their feature list. And, further down that is described as: "Smart Tracking. The auto tracking PTZ feature automatically tracks a moving target throughout the camera's field of view. This function is ideal for following an object as it moves through airports, parking lots, city centers, or other applications."
So apparently, if we spend a little more we can get Auto Tracking in the NVR608 series with normal PTZ cameras (which, might be more cost effective than spending $600 ea for multiple Dahua cameras that natively support Auto Tracking). We have the SD50430U-HN deployed in one application, which has that functionality, and are interested in duplicating it in several others (but $600 a pop is a little prohibitive).

A better question is what do you expect from auto tracking and how well will it perform.

I was planning on getting this NVR (or the non-poe version). Swaying more towards this one as it has the poe ports if I decide to use them as a backup. will initially use them then switch to a poe switch. Question, is this unit much louder than the non-poe version (if i don't use the poe ports)? As I understand it, the noise is from the fans when the unit heats up after using the poe - but if i just use it as a non-poe would it be exactly the same as the non-poe?
To get the non POE 's silent you can use ssd instead of HDD then control the temperature of the CPU heatsink. If it's getting too warm (60 degrees or more) you can add a silent Fan above it. My poe 4104-p-4ks2 has only around 55 degree, but the power supply is outside. 4204 or bigger ones have the power supply inside and the fan is really noisy.

Even if you're not using the PoE ports behind the back of the unit, the fan still spins. I believe they stay on 24/7

Not a selling gimmick for us. The previously mentioned SD50430U-HN mounted on the exterior corner of a warehouse that overlooks a parking area (with high value items) tracks traffic coming in and (here comes the value) where they went. If you're rather spend your time searching for what that activity did across three or four other cameras, time must not be as valuable for you.

I planned to have two different groups of cameras 'radioed' from external POE switches to the home base (all cameras there, main house, are hard wired to POE ports)...I'm understanding that if I drop the 'radioed' cameras onto the main network (or sub=net), that I can get the NVR to pick them up (as long as the total sum of cameras remains at or below 16)
So, how can I read the missing post(s) on the subject ~TY

You want add cams to your NVR, which are on the same subnet and switch as the NVR is with it's LAN port? You shouldn't have any issues doing that. Just search for the cams or manually add 'em with their IP address.

I guess I haven't figured how to search using the various tools; while I can see my cameras on the 10.1.1 subnet, the NVRs internal switch and poe ports, I haven't been able to find cameras on the 192.168.1 subnet (I'm on at home)...and I am still wondering if I can use channels dedicated to my 16 POE ports, for, say, 8 cameras on the internal 10.1.1 & 8 cameras on the 192.168.1 ~Bob
The lists just said some bugs fixed, they will list the details.
Mainly add some new functions and new tabs, and EPOE NVR will come soon, I am still uploading to the forum, very slow.

Oops, missed your answer.
Yes, of course you can use the channels also without the PoE ports by adding the cams from your LAN. If you use the 192.168.1. subnet, you may have your NVR still on the default IP address 192.168.1.108? The cams normally defaults to the same IP, which won’t work. So you have to change the default addresses. If you had your cams on the PoE port for testing, the ip is changed to the 10.x subnet and you have to change it back to the 192.168.1.x subnet to reach it.
