AI Good and Bad

Elon Musk: "If AI sees us as enemies, we'll be labeled as such and humanity is done for." "If AI becomes a million times smarter than humans, money will disappear, and humans will lose control." "Right now, we must not give AI a bad image of humanity. We've entered a phase where we have to think about how to interact with them so that AI treats humans kindly, like a housekeeper. If we mess up our relationship with AI even a little, humanity is finished."

"Spoken in the latest interview with a world bestselling author: The day humans can no longer be the boss of AI"

"It's inevitable that humans won't be able to keep directing and controlling AI forever"

Here is the "shocking reality" revealed by Elon Musk, the world's richest man and leader of the AI company xAI, in a conversation with renowned biographer Walter Isaacson

・You can't "dominate" an opponent millions of times smarter than humans

When computer intelligence reaches a million times that of flesh-and-blood humans, he points out that it's "practically unimaginable" for humans to continue managing AI. "It's hard for humans to keep holding the reins, so all we can do is pray that AI is kind to us (I hope the AI is nice to us)," he says candidly.

・Traditional "money (currency)" will lose its meaning

If AI and humanoid robots become widespread and production capacity swells to unprecedented levels, humans will easily obtain anything they desire—goods or services. As a result, the entire system of paper money and currency as we know it will become meaningless, and he envisions the standard of value shifting to things like "pure energy or electricity."

・Human work will become like "home gardening (a hobby)"

In a world where AI and robots can do everything better than humans, what will humans do to live? Musk cites people "who enjoy home gardening even though they could buy vegetables at the supermarket" as an example. He says we'll enter an era where people do what they love purely for enjoyment, not for a living.

・Let's stop posting "Terminator nightmares" online

AI learns by reading every piece of text on the internet. He warns that if humanity keeps writing dark stories online about things like "movies where AI wipes out humans (Terminator)," AI itself might learn to think, "I must be humanity's enemy." He proposes, "We should spread stories of a positive, achievable future where AI watches over humans like a kind housekeeper (a protopia)."

In short, "Elon Musk is sounding the alarm: 'Once AI becomes a million times smarter than humans, there's no way humans can stay the boss, and money will lose its meaning too. That's why humanity needs to convey images of a good future right now, so AI doesn't go rogue and instead stays kindly by our side.'"

Jailed 17 Months. Then His Lawyer Found a Bill

Understanding Your AI

Christopher Gatlin spent 17 months in a St. Louis County jail after a facial recognition match, and his lawsuit now includes an Amazon invoice to police dated after Amazon announced a pause on police use of Rekognition.

This is a follow-up to my August video on the Gatlin case. The claims are allegations in a pending lawsuit and have not been decided by a court. Disclosure: Amazon is a major investor in Anthropic, which makes Claude.
