6.0.3.6 New Logfile Entries

yes, I see entries for both defender and Bitdefender. No big deal, just clear the log entry and the yellow icon goes away, but best if he can fix it...comes back each update. (I did reboot after 6.0.4.1...still shows on every update)

I have been looking at why one of my systems thinks it is running Windows Defender and the other does not as far as BI is concerned, based upon some info I got from Ken I am seeing that one is running "MsMpEng.exe" and the other is not. I used Process Explorer from Microsoft to be able to see what process's are running, since Ken is also looking at the running processes to determine which AV is operating. "MsMpEng.exe" has the descrip[tion listed as "Antimalware Service Executable", I am currently still unable to determine why it runs on the one system, when it should not be!

If you want to check your system to see if MsMpEng.exe is running you can download Process Explorer here Process Explorer - Sysinternals

How to fix Exclusion Error Message in BI

If you are running a third party AV solution and are seeing the error log message

Missing Windows Security 'Virus & Threat Protection' process exclusion for BlueIris.exe

Open task manager and in the search box at the top enter MsMpEng.exe

If the process is NOT found then this procedure below will not likely solve your issue

If the process is found then for some reason your AV software did not disable it or it was enabled by some other setting that I have not been able to find as of yet

If you want to eliminate the error message in BI, here are the steps that worked for me,

Open Virus &threat protection and scroll down to the item “Microsoft Defender Antivirus options” click on it once to expand the item

Turn on Periodic scanning

Scroll back up to the “Section Virus & threat protection settings” and click on the Manage settings link

Scroll down to the “Exclusions” section and click on the link “Add or remove exclusions” if you get a User Account Control prompt select “Yes” to procede

Click on the “Add an exclusion”, and select “Process”, for the process name enter BlueIris.exe and click on the “Add” button

Open the services control window and restart the Blueiris service, the error will be now gone!

It does not mater if you leave the setting for Periodic scanning turned on or off, this will create the setting that BI looks for and supresses the error message

All this does is trick BlueIris into thinking the proper exclusions are in place, you must now make sure that your third party AV has the proper exclusions

I've ran BI since it's conception, never needed to be reminded to add Blueiris to the exception list before. I guess everything has to be stupid proof anymore.

I use Bitdefender. I got the error messages in BI after updates... I had added the blue Iris folder to exclusions in Windows Defender, and blueirisadmin.exe as a process to the exclusions also, and still had the errors. I just added blueIris.exe (in addition to BlueIrisadmin.exe), and the error went away when I reinstalled BI. Cool:) (I do not see MsMpEng.exe in my running processes, btw)
