    Emergency Power/Storms/Prepping etc

IMO you're worse off than my vision of tropical (small island, lying on the beach under a shade tree next to bikini-clad hottie). I lived for a year in Houston. The worst was downtown on a summer day. It felt like the hot moist polluted air was dripping down on me.

    Emergency Power/Storms/Prepping etc

You might be right on that specific point, but I don't think that's the right way to look at it. I went with a grid tie + battery system about 15 years ago with the main reason being emergency power when the grid is down. In the summer it will provide us with full power, sans air conditioner...

    Emergency Power/Storms/Prepping etc

Either my math is bad or there are wildly bogus claims to sell batteries. The BS is just as bad as the political junk. That "whopping" 24,000 Wh figure is of course normally called 24 KWh. Extrapolating that from 2 weeks to a month says that the "average" household uses about 50 KWh of...

You nailed the problem I believe. I know that when I write an email or forum post I have to make several proofreading passes on it before I think it's acceptable, then sometimes people who read it still don't get the point I wanted to make. I have a higher expectation for "professional"...

Review- EmpireTech IPC-T54IR-ZE-S3 4mp Varifocal Turret

My experience is as close as possible to the camera. Otherwise you end up with big shadows that show nothing, because there's no light at all in them. On the hotspotting, with wide angle cameras I've gone to using two aimed-apart smaller illuminators which better cover the edges of the FOV...

Dahua WizColor 5x59-PRO and SmartLight 5x59-IL new series

I'm expecting a 6mm IL sometime this month and will put it up next to my one and only S3. My priorities aren't the same as most of you and I won't be deeply analyzing the image quality. My thing is reliable animal detection without a zillion false positives. The location sees tall grass and...

Dahua WizColor 5x59-PRO and SmartLight 5x59-IL new series

On paper, the IL-series kinda-sorta looks like the 5442 S3 with white LEDs. The fixed focal turret even has the same mickey-mouse mounting base as the S3. No actual info, however, other than what's in the data sheets.

On my deer non-identification, I'm trying the suggestions that were offered: Created an intrusion box with appears+cross and changed the tripwires to zigzag, both directions. Also cranked up the individual rule and global sensitivity from 5 to 8, and did the global calibration. I still don't...

Dahua WizColor 5x59-PRO and SmartLight 5x59-IL new series

I don't think that's the issue here. The issue for me is when the camera first detected the deer as an animal, as shown by when it first put a green box around it. It moved all the way across the FOV from left to right, first detected just before leaving the FOV on the right. This picture is...

Dahua WizColor 5x59-PRO and SmartLight 5x59-IL new series

The 54PRO wasn't very good at animal detection this morning. Deer spent a full 2 minutes in the camera's FOV before detection just as it was exiting. Large scale models are enabled. No detection No detection. Loitered here for a full minute. Still not detected, 12 feet from the...

    Healthcare

Even if none of the waste, corruption, etc. didn't exist, I think it's still in a death spiral. People are being kept alive longer thanks to all of the new technology. Many of these people need more and continuous expensive treatments, drugs, and care by healthcare workers. On a long enough...

I'd like to see dual citizens barred from employment by any government agency. Other than that, I don't have a problem with them. We'd be a lot better off if our congress wasn't owned by people who serve their other country first.

    Animal detection?

The 2231 doesn't have the human/vehicle filters does it? If not, it will detect animals. Same thing for the 5442-S2 using very old firmware. Now if you're asking for animal detection without all the false alarms for spider webs, blowing leaves, rocks that the camera thinks have moved, and...

Do you use a patch panel?

The "insert" type of RJ45s sold by monoprice are no more difficult to use than pass-throughs and have closed ends. IMO of course, and I hope I don't sound like a commisioned salesperson for as many times as I've said this.

    Temporary POE connection.

The 54PRO's pigtail is so darn big that I couldn't get the cover on the junction box I use. Part of the problem was a 6" patch cable from the POE splitter to the camera. I reluctantly made my own cable, about 3" long, only 2 pairs, and no outer jacket. That allowed me to slam the cover on the...
