No Live View on PC

It can also be downloaded from the main NVR screen, upper right.
On the NVR itself? I can't find it.

Yes, iVMS-4200 still works fine, no plug-ins required!
I can't work out what password for that either!

Note, my cameras and NVR are from 2018 and are an international software, not AU stock or software. Unlike my parents newer system which is all AU, from the other thread.

Are you installing iVMS-4200 for the first time? If so, it asks you to setup a iVMS-4200 password... this password is independent of any NVR or camera passwords... so if you already had iVMS-4200 setup and you forgot the password, you can uninstall iVMS-4200 and reinstall and create a new password during the iVMS-4200 install process/first time run.

As far as the screenshot you posted, I'm surprised you don't have an option to install the plug-in like this:

I know you have already tried, but I would try downloading the plug-ins from the Hikvision website and reinstall them again... and maybe clear the browser cache and cookies before doing so:

HiTools

He keeps posting screenshots of his camera menu and saying he can't find the plugin download button, but we keep telling him it's on NVR menu. Hopefully he sees this.

I think the plug-in download button is usually(?) available on the camera GUI menu also. It is on my cameras... like this one:

I did reply saying that i couldn't find it. If anyone can post a screen shot of where it is on their NVR menu that would be good. I'm wondering if it's because it's all very old software. I could update it but if i get the software wrong, i could brick it.

OK guy's i got it working!!

It still won't work on Edge or if i got to IE doing the notepad thing but if i click the IE thing on Edge to switch to IE, it asked to install the plug-in, and then it works!

Thanks everyone for the advice, got there in the end!

Now to sort my parents one..

Just a little update, i updated all the camera's to the latest firmware, since doing so i can now view live view in Edge and don't have to switch over to IE. I also now have the plug-in update icon as well.

I cannot find any software that will update the NVR though!

What model and region are your NVR?
The model is DS-7608NI-I2/8P, i don't know what region though. I got it and the camera's from eBay in 2017 and i believe they are import and not AU stock. The camera firmware i updated to was from the Hikvision Canada site and it's working fine. The current NVR firmware is V3.4.95 build 170626.

You can confirm the NVR region using your serial number and this chart:

Screenshot 2025-09-01 210950.png

Most likely your region code is "WR"... if so, here is the link to the Hikvision portal for that firmware:

Home » portal » Technical Materials » 02 NVR » 00 Product Firmware » 04 I-series » [76 77 96 NI-I]

You will see your current NVR firmware V3.4.95 build 170626 is in the list... the newest firmware is V4.61.025 build 220905... that over 5 years of updates!

You definitely cannot just load that newest firmware... there are interim versions you need to load (most important going from V3 to V4)... If I had to guess, I'd say you need to load V3.4.103, V4.1.10, V4.1.64, V4.22.005, V4.40.015, V4.50.000, V4.51.025, V4.60.000, V4.61.000, and then V4.61.025... but I'm not sure... of course there's always a chance something will go wrong/brick it... If you decide you want to update the firmware, let me know and I will try to confirm the list of firmware you have to go through... the list is out there on the Internet somewhere :)

I don't know how you find this stuff, genius!

So, mine is RR.

Yes, mine is that list so could be correct, what do you think? I could try the next version up.

Make sure you use the script and install IE that way. Also, create a shortcut for the script link on the desktop to access IE if using a pc. Not sure what you can do if you only access it via an NVR. MS don't want you using IE anymore and in my experience will uninstall it during updates or block it by redirrecting you to Edge if you try to start it any other way. Edge compatability mode with IE is not the same as IE in my experience.

The real answer is camera manufacturers need to move away from IE based browsing. However, so far they've failed to do so, at least successfu;lly from what many have found. Whilst cameras display for most in other browsers, settings altered during visits to the cameras set up pages have a tendancy to not save or revert after exit when other browsers are used in many people's experience.
