EOM (End of Marketing and Sales) for 5442-S3 announced

Or we can just ask Andy @EMPIRETECANDY to make his own cameras and slowly part ways from Dahua / Hikvision. I am sure we all will buy his cameras in a heartbeat and support his efforts as he has exceeded his support here on the forum :) That would be a GoFundMe page put to good use.

I asked them before, they said same chips as 54PRO, just add blue and red light.
The 5442 cams i think the DDR crisis push these cams at a bad situation, not enough ddr for the cameras.

But image sensor for 99% is different...

Both HIK & Dahua have AI-ISP only for Smart Sense sensors. I don't know why - maybe some AI-ISP processing is simply done on image sensor and not on SOC...

5x59-PRO have 4/6/8 Mpx models on 1/1.8" sensor, identical WDR specification for all models and AI-ISP processing - typical for Smart Sense sensor.. the same is on TIOC-PRO and Hik ColorVu cams...

5x59-IL series have 4/8 Mpx models on 1/1.8" (and 5 Mpx on 1/2.8"), very high WDR specification only for 4Mpx model (which have triple flash for WDR - internal 90 fps on sensor - 8 Mpx model never had this) and no AI-ISP / WizColor specified - typical to OmniVision sensors.. very high HIK models (DeepInView 7xxx series) have similar specs and are on OmniVision image sensor...

Both are using the same SOC & firmware...

How close do the 5459-IL models come to the s3 cameras? I haven't seen any real videos from the new cameras yet.
I've been running a 4MP 6mm S3 and a 4MP 6mm IL for a couple of months. I'm not offering to do the work of posting videos but can offer general conclusions from daily observations. Some context:
  • Cameras are within a foot of each other, stacked vertically.
  • The only motion detection used is IVS tripwire.
  • White lighting is not used.
  • Unable to evaluate vehicle detection, no vehicles are ever in the camera FOV.

Conclusions:
1. Daytime images look better on the IL. Better color accuracy and dynamic range handling, but no meaningful difference in showing details.
2. Night images better on the IL. On the fringes, can see things that don't show up on the S3, or can see things clearly that are marginal at best on the S3. No obvious difference with motion blur.
3. S3 human detection is very good. Animal detection somewhat ok, estimate 90% detection level. Extremely high level of false IVS trips on windy days.
4. IL human detection not as good. Estimated 90%. Animal detection sucks at about 50%. Fewer false IVS trips on windy days.
5. The poor object detection of the IL is mostly when the object move directly to or from the camera. Objects moving side-to-side in the FOV have a higher detection rate. Animals, large and small, can walk straight toward the IL and never be detected.
6. The poor object detection of the IL also looks to be speed of detection related. The S3 almost always detects an object in the FOV faster. Something moving fast through the IL FOV (like a running animal) evades detection.
7. I tried both large and small AI models in the IL.
8. In both cameras, shutting object detection off looks to be a placebo. The poor IL detection doesn't change even with all the object filters off.
9. All this is based on the firmware the IL was delivered with.

Higher level conclusions:
1. You won't get alerted to look at as many things with the IL, but when you do, the image might be a lot better.
2. Most of my cameras are fixed focal 5442 S2. I had visions of replacing them with the IL, but unless new firmware improves detections, I'm better off with the S2s.
