Regardless, he had a legal right to be there.
Did you see the videos! He didn’t initiate the confrontation.
You don’t have an opinion?

ICE said they’re going to investigate themselves, how do you think that will turn out?

I will wait for all of the video. Not those purposely selected by the anti-ice people who are against the deportation of illegals in this country. I want to see the rest of the story. Your TDS is on full display. By the way I will state that I support ICE and the deportation of people illegally in this country.

The speaker, DHS Secretary Kristi Noem at a FEMA headquarters press conference on January 24, 2026, addressed two main topics: a fatal shooting during a federal immigration enforcement operation in Minneapolis and an ongoing severe winter storm.

On the Minneapolis incident:

  • Federal law enforcement (including U.S. Border Patrol and HSI) conducted a targeted operation against an illegal alien with a criminal history (domestic assault with intent to inflict bodily harm, disorderly conduct, driving without a valid license).

  • At around 9:05 a.m. CT, an armed individual (described as having a 9mm semi-automatic handgun, two magazines with dozens of rounds, no ID) approached officers, leading to a violent confrontation.

  • Officers attempted to disarm the suspect, who reacted violently; an agent fired defensive shots, killing the suspect at the scene despite immediate medical aid.

  • The speaker characterized the suspect's actions as an attempt to inflict maximum damage and kill officers, labeling it an act of domestic terrorism (citing Minnesota BCA Superintendent Drew Evans' statements and White House characterization).

  • Protesters arrived afterward, obstructing and assaulting officers (objects thrown, including ice; one HSI agent's finger bitten off), prompting crowd control measures.

  • The speaker blamed Minnesota Governor Tim Walz and Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey for encouraging violence through rhetoric (calling officers "Gestapo," doxing identities, refusing cooperation), protecting criminals, and facilitating corruption/fraud (tens of billions in stolen taxpayer dollars under programs for vulnerable people).

  • Criticized local leaders for refusing two requests: (1) notify ICE before releasing dangerous criminals from jails for deportation; (2) provide backup during operations.

  • Noted over 490 criminals released onto streets instead of turned over since Trump's return; contrasted with cooperative cities like Memphis (murder rates dropped 50%) and states like Texas/Florida.

  • Investigation ongoing per standard protocols (including internal CBP OPR); details to be released as available; no changes from prior administrations.

  • Defended operations as necessary to remove criminal illegal aliens, following public mandate after prior border issues; denied increased deadliness under current tenure.

Man fatally shot by federal officer in Minnesota worked as an ICU nurse, his parents say

Family members say the man killed by a federal officer in Minneapolis on Saturday, 37-year-old Alex Jeffrey Pretti, was an intensive care nurse at the Veterans Administration who cared deeply about people and was upset by President Trump's immigration crackdown in his city.

They told The Associated Press he was an avid outdoorsman who loved getting in adventures with Joule, his beloved Catahoula Leopard dog who also recently died. He had participated in protests following the killing of Renee Good, who was shot behind the wheel of her SUV by a U.S. Immigration and Customs Law Enforcement officer earlier this month.

"He cared about people deeply and he was very upset with what was happening in Minneapolis and throughout the United States with ICE, as millions of other people are upset," said Michael Pretti, Alex's father. "He felt that doing the protesting was a way to express that, you know, his care for others."

In a recent conversation with their son, his parents, who live in Wisconsin, told him to be careful when protesting.

Feds were arresting Ecuadorian illegal alien Jose Huerta-Chuma in operation that resulted in Alex Jeffrey Pretti’s death

The accused criminal migrant in the operation that resulted in the shooting death of a Minneapolis anti-ICE protester Saturday has been identified as illegal alien Jose Huerta-Chuma.

Huerta-Chuma, of Ecuador, was arrested by Department of Homeland Security officers on Saturday and apprehended for driving without a license, according to Border Patrol Commander Greg Bovino and the Washington Times.

Huerta-Chuma’s criminal record includes charges for domestic assault, disorderly conduct, and driving without a license, federal authorities said.

.Details about his illegal entry into the country and the nature of his crimes were not provided by the Department of Homeland Security.

The traffic stop apprehension was disrupted by anti-ICE protesters — resulting in the deadly scuffle between uniformed officers and civilians on the icy Minneapolis streets.

Protester Alex Jeffrey Pretti was part of the street-side struggle, according to video, and became the center of a scrum of roughly six officers who tackled the 37-year-old after he attempted to separate ICE agents from demonstrators.

Pretti was armed with a semi-automatic pistol and two magazines of ammunition at the time, DHS said.

Bovino claimed Pretti approached officers with the weapon and “violently resisted” agents when they attempted to wrestle the gun from him, he said in a news conference.

They are doing illegal immigration enforce in a lot of other states. In Florida where you live DeSantis is helping the ICE. In Minnesota, the Democrat controlled state is hindering their operation and supporting the demonstrators. That is the difference.

Officer 'will lose finger' after unhinged Minnesota rioters bite him during protests: DHS

Chaos erupted in Minneapolis Saturday after hundreds of protesters faced off against federal agents in the wake of the fatal shooting of an armed man who allegedly tried to intervene in the arrest of a criminal migrant.

One Homeland Security agent even lost a finger in the violence, according to DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin, who posted photos of a sobbing demonstrator — and the bloody, severed digit.

“In Minneapolis, these rioters attacked our law enforcement officer and one of them bit off our HSI officer’s finger,” she posted on X, adding, “He will lose his finger.”

Tensions flared as law enforcement tried to secure the area around West 26th Street and Nicollet Ave in South Minneapolis Saturday morning — where Alex Jeffrey Pretti was shot and killed.

No the other difference is we don’t have militarized masked squads shooting people.

I forgot your in California
Refresher

The U.S. Constitution (particularly the 2nd, 4th, and 14th amendments) prohibit officers from shooting citizens merely for possessing a weapon that is not an “imminent threat”. This was reaffirmed in Graham v Connor, which says force must be reasonable.

I am not arguing that point at all. My argument in this case is what Alex Jeffrey Pretti did at the protest.

Did he threaten or point a gun at ICE? Did he even touch his gun?

Was he aggressively interfering before they manhandled him?

If so, please show me where..

Both those "protesters" who were shot put themselves in harms way by failing to follow the lawful order of ICE agents. The guy shot today must feel pretty stupid he got himself killed by putting himself in harms way. RIP

They should have shot all those protestors ignoring lawful orders on Jan 6th too.

I mean really LE should just shoot people when they dont obey. Doesnt matter who

</sarcasm for the terminally stupid>

I agree. A number of these protesters are admitting that they are being paid to protest. One of the problems is that you have people like Bigredfish only posting one side of the story. You do not get the reason why ICE and other agents doing what they are doing. Their primary job is deporting people in this country illegally. These protesters are against that.
About 38,500 people and I imagine most are not from there. It looks massive on camera, but if you consider the population of that whole area is 3.76 million people then this is an insignificant amount. You see, before they trained all of these police to try to tame a mob crowd, the military was used. There wasn't much of these protests that never got out of hand until after the 1980s when they got rid of the "Bomb the Rioting Protestors" military exercise and I can tell most of this is induced artificially. Even the George Floyd riot.
