B54PRO-Z4E first impression

Has anyone recently tried going back to a previous firmware? If I try this it gives me an error and fails whilst trying to install after the upload.

If you trust a company like huawei/hisilicon you will have a bad time.
Not sure if they gave their shitty tech to dahua for free.

Maybe omnivision rely on too much taiwan, who knows.

My final word as I'm done testing (though I am going to do a quick test of the 54PRO-ZE vs the 5442 S3 ZE over the weekend in the backyard)

Its sad
Generally speaking the 54PRO can be made to be 95% as good as the 5442 S3 in the daytime or in low light with gobs of added light, like most ANY camera
Add to that the onboard white LED's that can be activated by IVS, and a decent mic/speaker, and still be IR capable...and of course the AI magic... if you find a use for it
..and you have what is a cool camera that is feature rich, very versatile and should be a big hit.

Just make sure and buy a 2nd camera (like the 5442 S3) to mount beside it for use at nighttime.

So what is the cause of the poor compare to the S3? the actual sensor? firmware? combination? (I have 5 T54PRO-ZE)

It’s a great camera in daytime.
The LEDs and mic/speaker are very good.
The AI with Large Scale Model and various object detection options are advanced beyond normal S3 IVS
It has more features than any other Dahua camera including the S3

It’s simply a little weak in IR mode at night. Noise from the sensor.

But if you can add additional IR or run the color white LEDS on activation (or full time) it’s a decent nighttime performer

The big S3 advantage is less noise at night in IR mode

Do you have any problems with jerkiness? All three of my cameras are jerky after the update, both in live recording and replay.

Possible then.

I did notice my NVR connection and other camera UIs being snappier today after taking the 54PRO Z4 down,.. hmmm

I found a great place for it actually, my buddy has a large property with goats, chickens etc and has put up these monster flood lights around the barn.
I think we may have the needed light to run the 54PROs in color at night.

I haven't noticed it with this firmware, but with the previous firmware I was noticing some "jerkiness." Tracked it down to the encoding settings. The bit rate and i-frame rate had been altered, and I didn't do it! I tried to change it back to the appropriate settings, yet it kept changing it back to unusable values. Totally frustrated, but finally I factory reset the B54PRO-Z4E and all was well. The settings held. It was really odd, so I suggest you check your encoding settings and see if anything looks amiss.

Think I will try a factory reset on the one I have running latest firmware, this might also allow me to rollback if desired. Will report outcome if I go ahead with that.

Today I swapped out the B54PRO-Z4E for the B54IR-Z4-S3 (again). I like the daytime image of the B54PRO more than the B54IR because of the better dynamic range and color palette, but at night the B54IR is a better choice. The noise from the sensor on the B54PRO negatively affects the image, and the IR isn't as strong as the IR on the B54IR. Haven't had any quick-moving targets, but even with this neighborhood cat, it is apparent which camera is preferable at night. One thing I did attempt today was to mimic the color palette of the B54PRO on the B54IR. I found that setting the white balance to 22 red gain and 18 blue gain got it close. Sigh, if only the dynamic range could be improved with just a few settings, the B54IR would be the clear winner. A lot of swapping between the cameras is surely in the future.
