USA
Reason: Politics and inability to think for a collective cause

Building this bridge would have generated a lot of economic revenue, but politicians don't think the same

That and WE bear the burden of THEIR defense. If they PAID their own way, things would be different.

In the big picture, the only direction the EU is advancing faster is down the drain. US is headed there too, just not as fast.

^^ Both are valid statements - why are we bearing the burden of their defense, also Europe is already toast - its quickly loosing its 3000 year+ history
Europe is quickly going back to Year One

Europe has not need for USA type of defense and spending, until Ukraine/Russia.
Who wants to interfere / disrupt anything in Europe, in regard to politics or land mass?
They are no World Police, like America is.
Their foreign policies end at their borders.

USA has interjected itself into foreign affairs due to the need/want of being #1 World Power. Someone had to take that mantle.

I would say they need US money for their defense. Most people I know don't want the US to be the world's policeman.

I bet same people would not be happy with Russia being #1 super power, or China.

but if we gave up that title and quit funding the defense of other countries, maybe we can have bullet trains and free college for all and roads without potholes. LOL. As long as we can PROJECT that power as needed or if needed, will countries really want to instigate or threaten our interests?

Remember, The US being the world policeman is what the USA asked for and demanded at the end of WWII .. this in-effect created the US Trade Empire ..

Bretton Woods ... basically what made the US Dollar King and gave the USA enormous power, which the USA still rides on today

Yup-- the majority of my opinion on this comes from the status of our budget and debt. We cannot sustain this kind of spending.
