US Elections (& Politics) :)

Geesh, seems like a high potential for a wide war everywhere you turn.

Russia had a chance to make peace ..

should be clear Russia not coming to the Peace Table to smoke peace pipes without Tomahawks or equivalents ( Ukraine already has some good long range weapons, but needs better )

It's also fundamental the group of people not "getting helped" are already helped by only paying 3% of the burden. Some might call them grifters. ;) No harm, no foul.

Kinda a circular argument. They make far less and therefore pay far less tax. I dont call that help.

Various ways to view government assistance and policy.
Personally, with tests, I feel like on the policy side we don't do enough for the disadvantaged, poor, disabled
Not with free money, but incentives.

Or the polar opposite of "fuck em"

I dont claim to have the answer, but I do know all metrics point to the top 10-20% gaining dramatically since 2019 and the middle class getting decimated and hollowed out at a quickening pace.

This is a step in the right direction and would benefit all homeowners

Rachel Campos-Duffy Mocked The Hammer Attack on Paul Pelosi

FOXNews' Jesse Watters defends Pelosi Attacker

The label on both of these videos is very dishonest.

In the first one the reporting was transitioning from the awarding of a medal of freedom to the Pelosi attack, and Campos-Duffy made a dumb crack that maybe Pelosi should be awarded a hammer to defend himself, followed by a totally serious report of the incident. This being passed off as a moral equivalence to saying that a murder victim deserved it?

In the second one, Watters is questioning the two-tier justice system where the Pelosi attacker was being treated much more harshly than the perpetrators of similar crimes. He's not defending the attacker, he's demanding equal justice The title is simply a total lie.

Then, we can agree that we disagree on this.

You yourself say "Campos-Duffy made a dumb crack that maybe Pelosi should be awarded a hammer to defend himself"... and then of course Hegseth pipes in about the hammer with "It's metal, ha ha got a metal"... so clever... and it was not followed by a totally serious report of the incident... that YouTube video cuts to the actual attack footage aired at another time, on another local station, to show just how brutal the attack was. They were mocking the hammer attack just as the title of the video states.

As far as Watters... he's just saying people get released all the time after attempted murder?... and asks if it was attempted murder. His motive is obvious... he's defending the attacker, just as the title on the video states.

I won't bother spending time finding/adding Trump's statements on the matter... if you don't trust this google summary I'd understand:

Very nice the cheers and laughter from the republican party convention crowd...

I'm certainly not saying both sides don't do the same thing or that the republicans are the worst... that's been well established recently. :(

Afghani's on to US trying to take back Bagram AFB? (China has weighed in and said they wont allow it?)

China can go fuck themselves, they have no say in it.

YouTube Agrees to Pay President Trump $24.5 Million Settlement Over 2021 Suspension of His Account

Google executives were eager to keep their settlement smaller than the one paid by rival Meta, according to people familiar with the matter. Trump’s share of the settlement—$22 million—will go to the nonprofit Trust for the National Mall,

earmarked for the construction of a Mar-a-Lago-style ballroom Trump is building at the White House, according to the court documents. The White House has said the ballroom, expected to cost $200 million, would be funded by donations from Trump and “other patriot donors.”

YouTube agreed to pay President Trump a $24.5 million settlement in his lawsuit against the tech giant for banning his account in January 2021.

President Trump previously filed a lawsuit against YouTube, Twitter, and Facebook after the tech giants banned his accounts following the January 6 Capitol riot.

“We’re demanding an end to the shadow-banning, a stop to the silencing and a stop to the blacklisting, banishing and canceling that you know so well,” Mr. Trump said in July 2021.

Trump’s lawyers asked the Court to prevent the tech giants from “exercising censorship” or “editorial control” over the posts of a US president.

According to The Wall Street Journal, YouTube agreed to pay a $24.5 million settlement after Meta agreed to pay Trump $25 million and Twitter/X paid $10 million.

YouTube has agreed to pay $24.5 million to settle a 2021 lawsuit that President Trump brought against the company and its chief executive over its suspension of Trump’s account after that year’s riot at the U.S. Capitol, according to court papers.

The settlement makes YouTube, which is owned by Alphabet’s Google, the final Big Tech company to settle a trio of lawsuits Trump brought against social-media platforms in the months after he left the White House.

You may be a fan of tax refunds to those who not only do not pay taxes but also are far likely to be more of a burden on the rest of society. That I do not know. It may sound cruel to word it like that as many of those needing help is not because of their choosing or choice made but rather "bad luck". Part of the problem in this society is that those who pay taxes feel that the gubermint should help and there is no pressure or burden on them because they've already paid out. "Let the gubermint help them, that's why I pay taxes"; a great way to disassociate ones self from the feeling of needing to help out their fellow human being. Unfortunately, the gubermint and enacted policies the reinforce their situation (the wrong kind of incentives) and of course the gubermint is pissing away money for nonessentials not to mention enriching themselves and their friends along the way (who help themselves into being the top 50% of earners). There should be no requirement of the government to "help", equalize or redistribute the wealth of the producers. I don't think this country was founded on that premise. All men are created equal but not guaranteed equal outcomes and not guaranteed comfort at the expense of others. Sometimes a swift kick in the ass is the incentive that many people need. Most people on this forum can probably remember such an incentive and would admit the benefit of having reaped the reward of said swift kick.

No I'm not am liberal socialist. Nor do ANY of your words describe my views.
And I dont believe in equal outcomes by the government in redistributing wealth.
As far as washing ones hands and disassociate one's self from the feeling of needing to help out their fellow human being, you'd be surprised

My original post said eliminating the capitol gains tax on home sales as a policy, clearly favors the wealthy as stated. Which it does

THIS!!!

I have no issue with the tax structure as it sits right now. I know the bottom 50% only pay 3% of the bill per their incomes-- that's OK. My issues with taxation arguments is when people scream about "The RICH need to PAY THEIR FAIR SHARE" and really expose their ignorance. Guaranteed people talking like that have NO IDEA the top 1% are paying over 40% of the bill.

100% agree

I've never said that nor would I. Lets just say I'm nowhere near the bottom 50%

Agree, because right now it feels like the home "I own free and clear" is more like a rental from the gubermint. They should do this for land too. Why should we have to pay "rent" on land "we own"?

NBC reported that Trump is donating $22 Million of that settlement to the fund for the new White House Ballroom. That is classy in my opinion.

In fact-- I think history will look at building the ballroom with an approving eye. It SHOULD be luxurious and it makes a LOT of sense to have it on White House grounds from a security perspective.
