Apparently, not every American has a passport, thus this may be a better option for them; but in the long term what is the real benefit of RealID? Some people say its hypocritical, some say its beneficial for frequent travelers; others say its just another way to impede on people's time.

It's certainly not a cash-grab, as it didn't cost me any more to get my license with the Real ID, but it is rather stupid that I already had to provide the same exact forms of ID in order to get my CDL, and then I had to do it again to get the star on my license. Government incompetence at its worst...

I should probably rephrase that, not a cash-grab, but at the expense of people's "precious" time. Does this mean that when I need to renew my drivers license in a few years, It won't be a RealID, and just a standard one instead?
