WD Purple as Windows system drive?

Hello all,

I will be purchasing a SFF pc soon to run Blue Iris. I am leaning toward the Lenovo Tiny line, which has only one internal SATA bay. Could I successfully use a single WD Purple drive for both the system and data partitions?

Upon further research, it looks like the purple drives only come in 3.5" ff and the Tinys needs a 2.5" drive. Any suggestions on other drives to use?

Choose different SFF PC..
2.5" magnetic drives is big performance bottleneck..
Also you will be limited to 5TB max..

Not a good idea. Whatever you choose, make sure it will fit a 3.5” purple for data and an SSD for your OS and BI install.

Then as others have mentioned earlier, choose a SFF that will support a 3.5" HDD for Blue Iris video clips. To further clarify, put Windows, Blue Iris and Blue Iris' "db" folder on a SSD. I would suggest you perform a clean install of Windows using the MS Media Creation Tool on a USB flash drive.

Your experience without an ssd will be bad. You want a pc that allows at least one ssd and one hdd. The ssd is particularly important for the database file.

Thanks everyone. This info has been incredibly helpful. I'm back to the drawing board looking for a PC that will be suitable. I have space constraints, which is why I'm looking for a SFF PC.
