I bought a A229 Pro last years black Friday deal! Recently it just randomly shuts off for no reason. Nothing has changed since then, i have not updated the camera the SD card is the same one. Been using a SanDisk High Endurance Video card.

Any suggestion on what it could be seeing as how i have changed nothing.

It will record for a few min and shutdown, power it back on right away and it will record again then shut off randomly it may take 30min or 5min sometimes not all.

Things i have tried.
a different power source.....still randomly shuts off
un-pluged the rear camera.
formatted the SD card within the camera.
formatted the SD Card on my PC and checked for errors.

I have two A229 Pros with the same SanDisk High Endurance Video card and the other one has no issues yet.

Consistent writing and re-writing to the card will stress it, and they do not last as long as you might think. When the camera reads the error, it will often shut down or restart. Try a different card, or even switch cards from your other A229.

Maybe a intermitant super-capacitor? Possibly thermally or mechanically affected?
Does it seems to fail quicker when the sun is shining directly on it?

No the weather seems to have no affect for instance it was 32F this morning and 60F on the way home.

The SD card seems like the most obvious culprit. But lasting only a year?

Viofo suggest there own brand of cards but you know they are just re-branded.

...or when driving on a rough road?

lol no all pavement.
I guess where you drive in NJ isn't at all like rural NW AL where pavement can be "rough"....littered with potholes or in some cases, veritable craters! :highfive:

I do a lot of driving and like anything else over time you know where all the pot holes are. :)

Have had Viofo for years. They seem to work best with Samsung high endurance SD cards. I believe Viofo specifically recommends Samsung over SanDisk

One year for me on the A229 PRO, no problems so far on the Samsung HE or Viofo brand SD cards
