Yesterday I posted a problem I was having trying to get a brand new Amcrest ASH21 camera working on a LAN at my workplace. And I was told the ASH21 camera doesn't work like most other Amcrest cameras.
Unlike other Amcrest cameras, the ASH21 camera requires a internet connection and the Smart Home app to function. But I was told that after I spent 2 hours trying to get it up and running
I have 4 Android phones that I use for various things. One is my active phone, the three others (with no cell service) I use as video & music players, and camera monitors. And last night all 4 phones were running the Amcrest View Pro app, and all 4 phones were able to connect locally to the live video feed for the one camera I had up and running, as they have been for a month
I spent 2 hours trying to get the ASH21 camera running on 3 of my phones, the fourth one (luckily) I did not use
Today I noticed something very strange happened
The three phones I used trying to connect to the ASH21 camera last night, could no longer connect to the one camera I had up and running. The only phone that was able to connect to the camera and view the live feed was the only phone I did not use trying to connect to the ASH21 camera.
At first I thought, there must be a logical reason for this, it's not possible that the three phones I used to get this ASH21 camera running yesterday, all coincidentally suddenly stopped connecting to the camera they have previously connected to for a month
I repeatedly checked and rechecked the username and password on all three phones, and they were identical to the one phone that was able to connect
At this point I started hearing the Twilight Zone music playing in my head..... Is it actually possible this camera, or the Smart Home app I downloaded somehow infected those three phones and made it impossible for them to connect to my LAN camera?
My first thought was, this is too bizarre to be true, there has to be a reasonable explanation.
But even now when I do network search for that one camera I have up and running, those 3 phones can't find it when connected to the router. Only one phone finds the camera when I do network search. And that phone was the only phone I didn't not use last night
What could possibly cause this, other than malware?
