I'm ashamed to say I voted for him, as did likely many of the folks on this forum.
There was a hope that he was authentic, and that gave hope to correcting our country’s course.
Unlike some, I refused to go along once he began blatantly not only ignoring his promises, but taking actions in direct contradiction of them.
I didn't change, he did.
His previously hidden disdain for the American people, and his lack of ethics and integrity surprised many, his lies have become historical.
Some would say he accurately reflects the larger group of politicians and lawmakers that run our country.
I tend to agree.

BREAKING: Democrats on the Senate Homeland Security Committee just blocked a Republican effort to offer immunity to a former Dr. Fauci assistant in exchange for her testimony. She has been accused of destroying government documents on Fauci's behalf. Only one Democrat showed up to the meeting (Sen. Hassan D-NH), the other six voted no by proxy. All eight Republicans showed up.
The resolution required a two-thirds vote to pass and it failed 8-7 along party lines.
The unnamed former Fauci assistant previously pleaded the Fifth Amendment before the committee and refused to answer any questions, hence the GOP effort to offer her immunity from prosecution in exchange for her testimony.
Republicans on the committee blasted their Democratic colleagues for not showing up, and for "having no interest in the truth."
Chairman @RandPaul (R-KY): "There's no principal reason to vote against giving her immunity, the only reason is that you don't want her to answer, and you do not want to know the truth."
Sen: @RonJohnsonWI (R-WI): "I do not want to see Anthony Fauci's assistant go to jail. I want the truth. I think it's pretty obvious today, we only have one Democrat here, we're not going to get it."

- $43.8 billion of the reconciliation bill’s DHS funding will be allocated in FY 2026 Federal News Network.
- This is in addition to the $115.5 billion DHS is requesting in its FY 2026 annual appropriations Federal News Network.
- The total FY 2026 DHS funding (annual + reconciliation) will be well above prior years’ levels.
Major Spending Priorities
The reconciliation bill directs large portions of the increase to:- Border security & immigration enforcement:
- $4.1 billion for CBP to hire 5,000 customs officers and 3,000 border patrol agents over four years.
- $2 billion for annual retention/signing bonuses at CBP.
- $600 million for CBP recruiting, hiring, and retention Federal News Network.
- ICE:
- $8 billion to hire 10,000 new officers through 2029.
- $858 million for retention/signing bonuses.
- $600 million for recruiting, hiring, and onboarding Federal News Network.
- Other DHS components: Funding also supports U.S. Coast Guard acquisitions, the U.S. Secret Service, and the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center Congress.gov.
