It’s hard to imagine a greater irony: a celebration of the American Founding—whose entire purpose was rejecting kings, personality cults, and leader worship—being transformed into a vanity project for one man. The Founders fought a war to escape this kind of politics.
Having stage 4 Non Small Cell Lung Cancer (NSCLC), what this treatment is for, I'm naturally interested in any new treatments. While Vaxira's presentation appears to be technically accurate, it's very misleading and overblown to a casual reader. While it may in fact genuinely improve the outcome with some of the many types of NSCLC, it's effective only with a small percentage of the NSCLC population. This is great, but it's definitely not a cure, or treatment at all, for all lung cancers as a casual watcher/reader would conclude.
The largest percentage of NSCLC victims have a gene mutation called EGFR exon 19 deletion. Even the clinical trial writeups for the subject vaccine Vaxira mislead by omission. They point out that there are other non-chemo treatments for NSCLC, namely Immunotherapy and Targeted Treatment, and the Vaxira success rate is better than the chemo or no treatment at all rate, conveniently not mentioning that the Targeted Therapy rate is better than Vaxira's. I'm currently taking a VERY expensive big-pharma Targeted Treatment, and this "new" breakthrough makes no claim to do anything at all for this most common form of NSCLC that I have.
It's also not a Cuba exclusive, with two Argentina universities working on it with the Cuba organization. And the claim "Cuba Unveils" is a bit misleading too, as it was unveiled 20 years ago.
