UI3 version 228, BI version 5.6.9.8. Anytime I go to timeline and back up the bar to any time once, it's fine. When I back up a second time it freezes and yellow box on lower right says "The video stream was lost. Attempting to reconnect..." CPU runs around 12% but jumps to around 40% when this happens. It will reconnect after about 10-15 seconds.

There were some timeline streaming bugs recently (at one point it was 100% unusable). If you update to latest Blue Iris, it should be fine.
No. Things break more often than they get fixed, quite frankly. Patch notes get posted here so you can find out what is new and judge if updating is worth the risk of new bugs.
