In a few days time I'm replacing my current BI system, what is the correct and easiest process to do this?

I was thinking;
  1. Install a fresh copy of BI on the new system.
  2. Stop all the BI services / processes on the old and new system.
  3. Copy over the complete directory "C:\BlueIris\" from the old system to the new.
  4. Physically move the hard disk used for video footage old to new system and ensure drive mapping/letter is the same, in my case drive F:\
  5. On the new system run/import the newest "backup.reg" from the "C:\BlueIris\AutoBackup" copied from the old system in step 3.
  6. On the new system start the BI application.
I assume this will work just fine for all my BI config/cam settings and keep current DB, alerts and recorded footage, but I'm unclear if the licence will transfer?

I believe that what you are proposing should work, the only thing that you should do is make sure you have your current BI key and then deactivate the old BI install before you put the key into your new system, I think that when you put the key in the new system it should deactivate the old system, but why take the chance! Once the new system and all the files are in place you should rebuild the DB to make sure it is correct!

So the import of the backup.reg won't carry over the licence, and I'll need to use my original key from my purchase email?

I am not sure, it has been a few years since I moved BI to a new system, better safe than sorry, if you goto the help page on the old system and click on the Copy button for support it while have your KEY in the text that is on your windows clipboard! Just past it into notepad and you will have your key saved!

Ok so new system is built and BI transferred over. Here is that I did, and it worked perfectly (every single BI setting for AI and cams carried over along with all alerts, clips and DB)

  1. On the old system, I clicked the "Copy button for support" under the help section and made a note of my licence key.
  2. I made a fresh copy of the backup.reg.
  3. Stopped the BI service on the old system.
  4. Downloaded and installed BI on the new system (but didn't open/start it).
  5. I copied from the old system my complete "C:\Blueiris\" to the new.
  6. Physically moved my recording/clips hard drives and gave them the same drive letters on the new system.
  7. Imported backup.reg on the new system.
  8. Opened BI, it prompted me for the licence key.
  9. Re-enabled the startup service under BI options so it installed the service on the new system.
  10. that's it, the new system is a carbon copy of the old one, I didn't have to update or change anything and everything was retained.
