Please see attached clip from one of two similarly installed T54IR-ZE-S3 cams, as well as screen shot of cam settings.
There are two different problems I am requesting help on:
1. Is it normal to see this much motion choppiness in such a FOV?
2. Exported clip has the cam time stamp, however, on this cam which is one of two identical cameras, the cam time stamp is not showing in BI.
Choppy motion
My cams are mostly overview cams, and I usually see slow speed motion as people drive up my longish, curving, gravel driveway.
Depending on the field of view of particular cams, I can read LPs manually.
Recently, I got two cameras set up at the entrance to my driveway, and now things are getting more interesting.
For the first time, I managed to tweak the settings on these cameras, following the suggestions in the excellent posts on dialing in cameras from @wittaj.
There is a noticeable improvement in image quality and losing the “casper” effect of the default settings.
The problem is choppy motion, day or night. I checked all the settings as best as I could, and nothing jumps out. I would appreciate suggestions on what I might do. I acknowledge something that @wittaj has often discussed, that the object is not to get movie grade smooth video, rather, we want still images that can be used for ID purpose.
Question: is the motion in the attached videos what one might expect from such a field of view? Or, is it abnormal, and thus calls for correction and fine-tuning of some sort?
I noticed that the timeline “circle/button” as the mp4 file is playing is similarly choppy as the video. I though the problem might be my PC hardware, but when I play the 6 second clip on my phone I see similar choppiness.
Time stamp
Following the helpful discussions here on whether to have the cam time stamp the videos, or BI overlay, I have all my cams set to time stamp, and do not use a BI time overlay.
I noticed that from one of two identical cameras, exported clips have the time stamp as expected, but in the live view, BI is not displaying that time stamp. I rebooted the cam by disconnecting the connection to the switch, but nothing changed.
How might I solve the problem of the cam time stamp not showing in BI?
