Hi, 'm searching for maybe 3 IP Cameras for me and my family's house.

An approximate floor plan of the property and the position where I think the cameras could best be positioned. The cameras would need to be installed at a height of around 6 m, as that is the only place where I can lay network cables (PoE) to the outside.
The cameras should offer the option of hiding areas outside the property (data protection). I imagine facial recognition would be difficult at that height, but maybe you have a few ideas, most important good night vision and compatibility to synology Surveillance Station.
Brands that I find interesting and have heard/read good things about so far are Hikvision, Annke, and Empiretech.

So, I've read that a larger sensor is better for low light conditions and that a focal length of 4 to 6 mm is perhaps most suitable for my requirements.

Am I right, or have I overlooked something?

For privacy protection you might also considering setting some cams to record towards your house. That way you could get good installation height for capturing faces, but avoid watching things outside of your property.

Hi, thx so far for the feedback! Now I have a solution for the high, so I can go down to about 3m height. Now where can I look for some specific cameras for my needs. And I have a Synology NAS, so the question is did I should use this, or better buying a NVR. Are there some threads, oder what do you guys mean. Thx for all Input. :thumb:

I have Empire Tech NVR and cameras. I zero complaints and it is very user friendly especially if you get the NVR with the POE ports.

@EMPIRETECANDY do you have some interesting cams and poe nvr? What I read is for the backyard because of the angle of 90° a fixe lens 2.8mm is good, or better vario lens? And for the front door and the side with the garage better 3.6, or maybe something different? Bullet or Turret Cam?
And I read the new NVR's has some AI Features, what sounds interesting to me.

Thanks in advance.

Welcome @derdip to ipcamtalk

TEST your placement before committing to it.

I personally found that even 3M is too high for many of my cameras, and ended up dropping them a bit more to about 2.4-2.5M ( about 8 feet in the USA )

Yes, 6m is too high for 2.8mm lens, better lower it or use motorized lens.

Fixed lens with dual illumination.

Motorized lens with dual illumination.

Pure IR Fixed lens

Pure IR motorized lens

NVR use this one.
