RJ45s and the Disection of.......

Gearing up for my Re-wiring of the Homestead, iv been picking up supply's here and there.
Shopping RJ45's couple weeks back, i realized i better watch my azz. what i found is worthy of this inner look as to the "Deals of Quantity" that abound everywhere.

Ideals from Home Depot on the Left - Quantity Deal from Local Distributor on the right.

1. Ideals have a Double blade design to pierce the plastic through to the conductor.

2. Quantity connectors here have one single blade to pierce the plastic conductor.

I will be sticking with Ideals till something better comes along......

Three prong is a good description. Two edges of Gold cutting into the conductor is better than one slicing one side.
The Bulk one is the quantity cheapies that are now in my trash can. (The bag on the right).

Good link, describes a couple quality connector(s).
However these cheapies with a single blade did not go into the wire, they skimmed the side of the insulation, hence the reason for the Dissection.
They Stay in the trash, i do not run stranded Cat for me or anyone else.

You are confused about design of the rj45 and how it pierces the Cable. Read it again.

The ideal has the tripoint design for both solid and stranded, its just difficult to see in the pic.

Yes ideals is what iv always used, back in the day there were few to choose from, these work well for solid Cat no matter what another vendor states they are use for. I only know this for using them for 15+ years. Stranded? would not know or pay a mind to, i dont run it.
I found it interesting the first Cat RJ45 coming to market were these, and it's just what you use, now they are changing up their tune? Marketing?
I use what works, never a call back, never a broken wire(s) Not One. Use what you want, OR are told to.......

You've never made a patch cord? Back before Internet commerce got big and patch cords got really cheap in reasonably quantities, I made them all the time. Still do from time to time.

Same here.
I run solid on long/typical runs, use pre-made short patch cords that are stranded, have repaired a few of those in the past when necessary but not many.

......Stranded? would not know or pay a mind to, i dont run it.

Few do for long runs with stranded (I wouldn't) , but solid not ideal for short patch cords. IMO.

That may be your recollection. DEC (Digital Equipment Corp.) was using a variant with a key back in the 80's. I seem to recall using the configuration we use today circa 1992 as made by TRW/Cinch.....over 25 years ago. in the 70'-90's there was lots of stuff, including RJ-45 connectors, available from places like DigiKey, Newark, Hamilton-Avnet that was not typically found at your local, walk-in electrical retailers.

Don't get me wrong, I use a lot of Ideal tools and items but today they are not the only source of good, quality 3-prong RJ-45 male crimp connectors for CAT-5/5e/6 cables.

I too prefer what works for me and that I have personal, positive results using......no reason to switch ("If it ain't broke, don't fix it").

I have NO IDEA. But I’ve always used Ideal Rj45’s and I’ve never had any complaints.

Correct, i am rather new to the "Manual" method of hand crimping. being retired now i can no longer justify the class3 license fee for my C02 auto feed selfloading Astro 3000. i DO miss the days wile making a Crimp, i could make a secretary/office worker jump when that puppy went off......Those days were special.
