Thanks for the review. I have a couple of general comments:

1. I see larger sensors used in the 2mp and 8mp cameras, and no action in the 4mp cameras, which are still using the 1/3" sensors. Makes me wonder if the 4mp product line is being put out to pasture?

2. The mount on this camera has indents, making it difficult to aim precisely. In a few cases I've ended up using shims under the base. This is one area where the turret form factor is a clear winner.

Hikvison is releasing cameras with 4mp with 1/2.7 low light sensors - would not be surprised if dahua does the same. Bullets domes and turrets. Hikvision AcuSense Easy 4.0
The indents make the camera more tamper resistant.

Alternatively, can I pls get some free cams for two 10 second youtube videos and links to specs and others reviews?

Ay least manipulate settings and incl night vision.

What is your problem? Are you jealous that you didnt get one. THINK! Perhaps there are no night videos because at the time of posting it was just getting dark! In the past every one of his reviews included night videos, why do you think it would be any different. His link to the "other review" was HIS OWN REVIEW!! of a camera with the same sensor!

You can bet that looney will do so, just give him some time, If you see his other reviews he usually will do it in steps, I'm sure he has other things to do like mashing potatoes and cooking turkeys right now.

is there any major difference between these? it's hard to tell by the way they are spec'd,
like - i can't tell exactly which may have a lux advantage or does higher res while 30fps.
dahua claims lower watt and lower Kbps, but maybe that's because it's a lamer mobo.
does one have significantly better motion detect, or nas support, or software support?
is one more future proof? or more durable outdoors (no temp/wet extremes needed).

i'm hikvision biased only because i set up a cube at a friend's house,
where i became familiar with ivms4200 and their ios/android apps.

for myself, i'm willing to try dahua, but i can't find any specific reason why i should bother.
i don't care about the "politics" of these brands, just that they continue to support them.

Ok. so setting aside your ocd for more megapixels (typical mistake, more is not always better, i know i know apple tells you otherwise with their phones). Both of those are poor choices. you dont want or need 30fps, another noobie mistake.
That hikvision is going to require daily spider web cleaning.
see threads on the dahua 1831 and 2831 4k cameras with the 1/1.8" sensors
The dahua bullets will be a bit better with the spider webs...but that hik forget it, get your broom out for the nightly sweep.
if you want hikvision then at least go with the turret. It has been explained to you in the other thread that a turret is ideal. Yet you seem to know better due to your extensive expertise in this field.

well, then i guess it's a lucky that i live where no spider dares to spin a web,

leaving me free to choose between a spider friendly and spider hostile bullet casing.

so maybe now you can identify major variances between these two linked spec sheets?

So kinda new to this... optional 3.8mm lens? how/where can I find/buy that lens? and is it not too difficult to replace by the end user?
