Replacing the internal Dahua system fan - EpireTech NVR

Hi. The default fan on the new Dahua/EmpireTech NVR is SUPER loud. On my last NVR i replaced the fan with the Noctua NF a4x10 fan.. and it was great. On the new NVR the fan is the same size, but the mother board connectors are different. It's still a 4pin fan connector but the grooves are in the wrong place. See attached image. Notice how the groove is in the middle of the connector? On the new motherboards, this won't fit. I need the connector on the end. My thought is to just shave it off... has anyone done this?

any suggestions?

I always cut the groves using knife.. zero problems, it works for many years...

NF a4x20 is better than NF a4x10... 2x wide, it moves much more air with much less noise..

What NVR do you have, dose it have active cooling of the main chip inside
I have done something different, I've added heatsink to all chips on the board for better heat dissipation and slowdown the fan to make less noise. The fan speed will depend on chip temperature. You can also add fan to main chip if there isn't one

is nice to add extra heatsinks like this...

but this don't solve problem that factory fans in NVRs are loud as hell...
especially that ones in smaller (1u) units..

replacing fan with NF a4x20 is fastest & cheapest noise solution for NVRs...

Alternatively adding fan that is thicker and similar size of factory fan moves 2x the air so you can slowdown the fan speed

you hook up the a4x20? It’s really thick and doesn’t fit the bracket ,

Hmmm I seems like the bracket isn’t wide enough but I just ordered one and will check. Thanks.

I got the a4x20 in today. You can see the difference compared to the x10. The 20 is too wide. No where to put it unless I’m missing something ?

Looks like it should fit in, maybe small modification of bracket. Can you take picture without fans

You probably have POE version, which could have less space inside...

I always use non-POE version, picture from my 5232-EI... there is totally different mounting mechanism (no extra bracket in my)..
