There is nothing to install... all you got to do is swap the coax cable ethernet cable and power cord.... Then you can usually self activate by going to any random web page and the Xfinity activation will pop up... Otherwise you'll have to call customer service and have them activate it by giving them the MAC address..

either way you turn a profit in a year...I had friends who rented the same crappy modem from comcast for 6 years at $700+ until I swapped it out for an ebay arris for 50 bux. Its been running great for two years.

you are severely overpaying. you dont need anything close to that for netflix or amazon....and if you stream wifi, you are not getting those speeds anyway. Lower your plan to 100, i promise you will not notice a thing. They are scamming you.

1080p streams tend to be in the ballpark of 4 Mbps or so. 4K closer to 10 Mbps. So really like Fenderman said even 50 Mbps is plenty for most of today's home internet workloads.

You guys and your 400, 50, 35 and 20 Mbps down......I've got 3.0 M down / 512K up. I can stream Amazon but only if all devices in the house are disconnected from Internet EXCEPT the TV and nobody farts! :banghead:

We were streaming Netflix OK until last month when we cancelled it after hearing Netflix signed a deal with Obama's production company to produce movies. :blankstare:

Ah man TonyR, I feel for you. If your internet is slow because you live in a rural area and the telephone company doesn't want to upgrade anything, you might be able to get fixed wireless service which can be leaps and bounds faster. Try your zip code here: Find Internet Providers in Your Area | BroadbandNow.com Of course fixed wireless requires line of sight to one of the ISP's towers, so it usually doesn't work in wooded areas or if you live on the wrong side of a hill.

Thanks, man but I put in my zip and got pretty much what I expected: CenturyLink (which is what I have since '09), HughesNet (satellite, had it '04 to '06, swore "never again") and ViaSat (also satellite, the old Excede/WildBlue which I had '06 to '09), so it's 'no joy'.

If you really want to lift your spirits (and you do so by observing the plight of others) and if you care to, put in my zip of 35572 and read how dismal Internet access is in my town and the entire county....you'd think we just entered the 20th century about the time most of the other 49 states moved into the 21st. !

AT&T hot spot from cell LTE are not so bad, 20M down on a good day, but night and weekends or bad weather it'll drop below 2.0M....I'm not joking. And of course, there's those pesky data caps if you want to stream YouTube or amazon prime.

Well, gotta run....time to finish churning some butter, then build a fire and heat some water so I can take a hot bath....it's been a long day and these homemade possum skin moccasins are making my feet hurt and are starting to smell just a tad....:rolleyes:

I think 2 cans and a wire would work as well. What a joke.....:banghead:

My BIL lives about 2 miles from a small town that has two providers with up to 150MBps service.
He has At&t DSL, 5GBs down, .5GBs up....at least that's what his bill says'.
In real life tests, hes lucky if he gets 0.5GB down, and up, you can hear the dialup modem squeal kick in. ;)
At&t kept mailing him material to upgrade to Uverse, he caved, installer arrived, and the installer had a good laugh. No way could he put him on Uverse. Your lucky you have DSL that you have.
