Before going for the reset button, try the local route first: connect a monitor and mouse to the NVR, click Forgot password on the login screen and see what it offers. If you set a reserved email or security questions when you initialized it last year, you can reset the admin password from there without losing any settings. The email option shows a QR code, and scanning it (the DMSS app has a password reset tool for this) gets a security code sent to that reserved email.
If you do end up using the hard reset, plan to redo the channels, recording schedules and network settings, since those get wiped even though the firmware stays. Also worth knowing: cameras the NVR initialized on its PoE ports usually got the same password as the NVR, so if they show up as wrong password after the reset, that is why, and they may need a reset too.
