Here is a quick comparison of series 1 & 2 of the 6mm Color4K-X cameras. I only made a video at night, since the cameras are identical during the daytime and provide an excellent image. One thing I noted today though is that the series 2 focus point is about 2 1/2 feet further than the series 1. This doesn't matter to me, since where I have the camera mounted on my garage is only meant to capture objects (mainly for color information) at a longer distance. For anyone who is bothered by lack of depth of field up close; this isn't the camera for you.
What did I notice when comparing the two cameras? The series 1 camera is brighter than the series 2 with less contrast, and it lacks the color rendering of the series 2. I believe it was Alekk who coined the phrase "Pigpen cloud of dust" when referring to the image of a different camera. This series 1 has always exhibited the "Pigpen Cloud of Dust" at night no matter the settings and shutter speed. However, this series 2 is greatly improved. You can definitely see it in the video clip that I am attaching. Much easier to identify someone with this new series 2.
One thing that is annoying is the digital speckles in the dark areas of the series 2. Look at the top of the video in the series 2, and you can see what looks similar to bad pixels in a digital display. The dots turn on and off. It won't make any difference in identifying a person, but it is annoying. Nice that the black is really black and not a shade of gray. There is some banding from my garage light on the series 2, but I wanted to keep the settings identical for the comparison. The banding will go away if I raise the shutter speed from 0-6 to 0-8.33. I like the newer interface with the series 2 compared to the series 1. The time plan is easy to set up and is appreciated.
Anyway, I thought I'd share my findings, since I haven't seen any comparisons between series 1 & 2 Color 4K-X cameras. I posted all the settings in the description on the YouTube video. Be sure to watch the video at the highest YouTube resolution (4k).
