PTZ5A4M-25X Tracking issues - Dahua SD5A425GA-HNR

Damn trash cans strike again!

I’m starting to think all of the alien conspiracy folks have overlooked the fact that they are obviously hiding in our trash cans!

I have pretty much the same tracking issues as other folks in this thread but a different use case.

The camera:
Device Model PTZ5A4K-25X
ONVIF Version 22.12(V3.1.0.1478567)
System Version V3.200.0000007.3.R, Build Date: 2023-08-04
Web Version V5.01.0.1535186.TA
PTZ Version V2.401.0000001.42.RHNCT_220811_42531
Algorithm Version 2.0.2
Security Baseline Version V2.3
H5Player Version V2.01.1

The use case:
At a distance of about 75 ft. movement in the range of the camera is at right angles, from right to left or left to right along a street.

For pedestrians, I get pretty good detection but the track is lost very rapidly when encountering an obstruction like branches or a bush. The tracking also times out during the track even though I set up continuous tracking. Tripwire seems to generate tracking more effectively than intrusion.
For vehicles. I get the same behavior as pedestrians for slow moving vehicles but for fast moving vehicles the tracking overshoots badly when tracking is lost. When swinging after the vehicle the camera will keep moving and the view will shoot off into the trees or a blocking roof. It appears the camera is trying to move to a predicted location but at that point there is nothing there and it just keeps moving.

I'm pretty new to configuring these systems so any help overcoming this - especially the overshooting - would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

On the overshooting, can you get a feel for how many of those events happen with the camera overshooting to the Left vs Right?

On mine, it was/is something like 90% of them overshoot to the Left

May be nothing, but its obvious and odd

My camera reliably overshoots both directions. It seems to over shoot further right-to-left (counter-clockwise) than left-to-right, but not more often one way or another.

However, several things complicate the answer.
  • Vehicles moving right to left (counter-clockwise) usually go faster than those going left to right.
  • The obstruction that breaks tracking left-to-right is solid so tracking can't be regained. Right-to-left there is a chance the vehicle will be picked up again.
  • The camera mounting and"home" position are such that it can rotate around 220 degrees right-to-left after acquiring the target but only 145 degrees left-to-right. That is to say, once it starts rotating it can go further when it overshoots on right-to-left before it hits a physical limit.
So bottom line I don't know.

i also have an update, dahua will have a new baseline fw release in the end of Sep for this PTZ, improve the tracking based on our talkings here.
Hi @EMPIRETECANDY. Any news regarding the new firmware update? I'm having issues with my PTZ and want to see if a firmware update helps with the tracking problems. As always, thanks for your support!

Yes, the new fw i am checking with them again. I can send you the beta one we sent bigredfish. It will have a big update on the new baseline, so need more time to release.

True first new PTZ platform release, using new Xinghan & Ai-ISP (Flowing Light) technologies...

Prediction of what awaits us in 2026 when Dahua should release new PTZ cams in all main lines (4 year product cycle).

Those are some HUGE mf'ers! Geez, looks like I'll have to wait until 2030 and hope for something smaller.
