I'm using a PTZ camera as a night vision camera for long distance... B/W, only night, no moving of the camera... and I have selected manual focus as it only has to look at one spot.

I have selected 'General' as a profile and locked that down 24/7

After a period of time (like the following night)... the focaus is a tad off and needs adjustment.

Semi-auto focus is a disaster.

QUESTION... are Dahua 32x vs 25x better in quality of lens an components... assuming this may be the problem (plastic parts just moving a little bit through temp cycle day to night)
Does Hik PTZ cameras lock off and stay locked on?
Anyone with any idea would be great and I would appreciate ideas

Many thanks

Leigh

Often the perfect focus point in B&W/IR is different than in color.

Don’t know if it applies to you but generally I use a schedule and force the change 30+ minutes before sunset and 30 min after sunrise to allow enough light for the camera to get focus

If you’re relying on the built in light sensor it may be too dark for it to get the perfect focus.

But if set to manual forced, hmmm you’d think it would go back to that. Is there a slider to show what the actual zoom/focus is?

Leave it in B&W IR 24/7 and it wont "Focus hunt" when switching Back and forth from color to Night vision.
I had this happen on my 5241ZE-Z12 camera used for Lic. Plates. Only solid fix was a manual focus.
Use another camera for color data and other info during the day.
