The transformer I have already outputs 12VDC, should it work without the converter you linked?

If it already outputs 12VDC then you don’t have to convert it.
i put a 12 power supply to my front landscape lights just because i had an 8A old one from a retired laptop. transformers are also so bulky, so yes to that type it can be plugged right in,
just check the polarity.
