Poor quality cable or rj45 connectors?

Based off of his original picture, he made his cable up for mode B. OP didn't state what type of POE switch he had and if he was trying to power the POE device using mode A or mode B. Most modern switches can automatically determine which mode it is. He said he wasn't getting any power on pins 7 & 8, which in mode A, isn't used. Assumption was made that he was attempting to power it in mode B as the wiring sequence for his RJ-45 connector would dictate. I am going to bow out on this discussion. You gents have your self a good evening.

So I got more expensive RJ45’s and have the same issue.

I’ve attached the results from the network tester.

OK, so you're using an injector, where 7/8 DO matter. One remote possibility is a mistake I made on one cable, where totally not visible looking at it, the stripper cut through one of the wires leaving the unconnected end firmly attached by the uncut part of the insulation. But since you had the same failure multiple times, this is a low probability explanation. Maybe this was already covered, have you run a known-good cable on the tester, to test the tester?

I have yeah a factory made cable passes without any issues.

Sorry no I don’t use any injectors, it’s a POE NVR no switches. There is only one camera causing issues would you believe.

In every single test I am doing it is failing wether I use cat 5E / 6.

So to reiterate what I have done.

Bought higher quality rj45 with 3 prongs
Bought new crimper (klein tools)
Tried a different tester(s)
Bought new 5E cable
Bought new cat 6 cable

Everything still failing.

Amen. Glad you said this as I was getting ready to ask "what the heck do POE Modes A and B have to do with whether a RJ-45 is wired to T-568A or T-568B?
Answer: nothing!

YOU select how you wire the RJ-45 to Spec T-568 A or T-568B and the PSE/PD protocol exchange determines POE Mode A or Mode B operation.

I will be extremely surprised if a POE NVR uses Mode B. I'm sensing some "A" "B" confusion here.
TIA/EIA568A and TIA/EIA568B are a wiring standard. They have absolutely nothing to do with POE Mode A or POE Mode B (other than the power is carried on the wires). Any TIA/EIA568A and TIA/EIA568B cable can carry any POE Mode. The specs are two separate things that happen to both use "A" and "B".

When you get this figured out, please post what you find. With all you've done to isolate, there has to be something really strange or weird happening.

Yes indeed. Also well interested in hopefully finding a solution and reason why pins 7/8 are a fail via testing. My pennies or cents worth, is a incompatibly with your use of RJ45's correct for your crimping tool. I've had same issues with rubbish RJ45's acquired from Amazon or elsewhere.

What a loaded question! Just about everyone here has a different opinion, there's no general agreement. I think the best is the type with inserts sold by Monoprice. Darned close to as easy as passlthroughs and have a closed end. In the past they were way less expensive than the passthroughs but now I'm seeing a lot of inexpensive passthroughs.

A little something I posted a few days ago on another thread ==>> here. I've been using Monoprice's 2-piece (Insert with lip and RJ-45 male) for my CAT-6 lately. Like anything, the first couple are not easy, but then you get the hang of it.

I have even better luck by using the non-serrated, flat part of my needle nosed pliers to gently flatten the wires, one at a time, in one plane then rotate the pliers 90 degrees and flatten in another plane. They then lay closer to each other, go into the insert easier, and allow the insert to get closer to the outer jacket, all the way up...
