Let me 1st say I am very thankful for this forum. I am no expert but need help with my home security camera system from time to time. This forum is the best tool I have !

I put together a great system with the help of many here. In 2018 thanks to Andy I put a Dahua 12 camera system using HDW5x31R-ZE cameras and a NVR5216-4KS2 Ver 2 NVR. I has been a fantastic system for the last 8 years and served my family well. I have decided to update the cameras which are still working well for better quality. Pretty much decided on the T541R-ZE cameras with help from this forum. I am MacOS based home with a 5 GB fiber internet connection and a 2.5GB backbone hardwired through the home. Hopefully this will accommodate the new cameras.

My question is do I really have to replace the NVR? I have 18TB Skyhawk hard drives in the DVR and all I really do with the NVR is setup cameras and record continuous loop video for 30 days. All the processing and messaging I do on the IP cameras themselves. I was looking at the NVR16CH-AI-S2 as a replacement. Well security cameras have come a long way and maybe I should consider replacing the NVR? Thoughts?

Thank You

M

The benefits of the newer NVRs is mostly AI search capabilities and cloud ecosystem stuff.

I have the new AI-S2 sitting unused since Fall. I'm still using my 5216-16P-4KS2E

TY sir for the reply. Andy now suggests the NVR16CH-2XI. I need to update my NVR5216-4KS2. Ver 2. I am at V4.000.0000001.5 date 2019-12-18. System and there is a newer ver for my NVR V4.002.0000000.8.R.241030. But as always I worry about bricking the %*^&$ thing. Anyone have a suggestion?

Ok - I am going to do the upgrade. TY for your help. May just keep old one and I had folks trying to hack my old one so the added security they address is important.
