Hi all.
I planned to extend my security cameras coverage .
I have my house as show above and i bought the place behind my house. I placed a poe switch to the other side and i run a cat6 cable from the router to poe switch . My question is what is the best way to connect the internet, nvr and switch??
Both device to internet router??

How was the internet and NVR connected in main house before adding the extension?

What devices do you intend to connect to the recently added PoE switch?

Are the cameras in the main house currently connected directly to the NVR? How many?

What make/model NVR is it?

Oh sorry for not giving any details. I have dahua NVR5232-16-4KS2E and connected all camers from tge house to nvr built-in poe . Cameras from the new place behind will be connected to the poe switch. I have a poe switch 16 channels

I have seen on IPCT that it is possible to add cameras to a PoE NVR using an external PoE switches, but recall reading it can be tricky, at times. I logged it only long enough to purchase a non-PoE NVR.

@bigredfish and nayr are pretty knowledgeable with NVR's and will hopefully chime in. I realize your system is already established, but consider reviewing this thread if you have not already seen it. ***PSA for those with a New DAHUA NVR with Built-in PoE switch

If the NVR is on the same LAN network as the external PoE switch no problem. Simply search for devices on the camera registration page and it should see/find them. Then add manually one at a time. Make sure and change the IP on each camera first as all Dahua cameras will default to 192.168.1.108

Yes that what i wanted from the first place. I run a cat6 cable directly from router to poe switch for this reason. (To be on tha same lan)

If I'm not mistaken, it is not a good practice to run cameras through the switch portion of a router to get to NVR or a PC/VMS due to bandwidth limitations.

Wat is the bedt way?
Run one of the router LAN ports to a port on same POE switch that the NVR LAN and the cameras are connected to.
