Correct. I run 22 cameras on a $200 refurbished Dell (it was $425 at the time). That doesn't include the external drive bay that I'm using to store footage, but you may not need that much storage if you're running fewer cameras. I bought another of those same boxes to build my parents' BI system for them, and I put a 4 TB HDD in the HDD bay and moved the boot SSD into the optical bay. Works fine for 8 cameras.

I do all my watching and reviewing from Chrome, and RDP into the box (from my Mac) only to do setup and maintenance tasks.

That's great - I know a lot of people love BI - would for sure consider it after I get this thing running correctly....I had an RCA doorbell and it was very dependable, albeit the video quality was not great. I'm also considering the new TP Link Doorbell that's brand new ..

I am on an older version. Probably need to upgrade sometime but it is working fine presently.

Since your DB is connected to the NVR you may not have access to the DBs webpage or client, sorry I don't have a branded NVR since I use BI.

To change the name/password on your DB you will need to get to the DBs web interface or Client software.

Again, you may need to take the DB off your NVR since they have their own subnet (IP Range), different than your network.

Thanks - I can get into the web interface and also the client, but that looks like the password for the users, not the doorbell. Or is that the same thing :) I have no idea why the DB let's me connect to the NVR via ONVIF, but not VLC, etc. Btw, how smooth is the recording with BI? Any choppiness? Also, I just created a new admin user and VLC still won't let me in (prompts me for user and password - enter them correctly - denied.)

That is the User for the Doorbell. You can just setup more than one user and set admin privilege or not.

This is the URL I use in VLC:

Using the same format - it brings up the user name and password box and won't let me in. I have some setting wrong, clearly.

By any chance, if someone is using the WiFi version, using Frigate NVR via the Home Assistant add-on and is able to get the high-resolution feed within Home Assistant, while simultaneously recording in high-resolution, please PM me. I can get the recording in high-resolution (looks great,) but the live feed is lower resolution. I've tried numerous frigate.yml configurations and nothing works, even using the feeds for high-resolution (MSE.)
 
Anybody else having issues with reolink's person detection? It still detects 'visitors' but for the last week or so the person detection hasn't been working at all . Prior to that it generated a bunch or false detections from snow and wind.

I've rebooted, but it didn't help.

I found it worked horriblly, integrated it with Frigate and now it's 99.99% reliable for me.

Log into the DB's webGUI, give it a unique, static IP in the same subnet as the NVR's LAN but outside of your router's DHCP pool, enable ONVIF and RTSP in the DB, connect to the LAN and have the NVR look for it. DB will NOT be connected to POE port of a POE NVR but to the LAN.

does that mean i will have to use a POE injector since it wont be powered by the NVR?

yes or poe switch. You could probably plug it into one of the NVR's PoE ports, if you don't care about using the reolink app / talking to anyone at the door / integrating with alexa etc.

. . . and I looked in my "miscellaneous POE" box this week and discovered that 4 of my unused Unifi POE injectors are actually 802.3af injectors!! Ironically I discovered this because one of them didn't work when I trying to bring up an old Unifi AP that uses 24 V Passive POE.

Unifi has an annoying habit of reusing the same part number/product name for multiple versions of the product, without making it clear when significant changes have been made, such as POE method.

So that's $24 I didn't have to spend (I bought another one for another project recently). And now I have a pile of 802.3af injectors!

This site can’t be reached
192.168.x.xx refused to connect.

I even tried installing the Reolink desktop app, but can't seem to configure the network settings within that app to enable remote access for advance management

Make sure you have the IP address correct.
It defaults to using HTTPS with a self signed certificate which most browsers will complain about. You may have to try a different browser and likely have to tell the browser to trust the cert.

I was able to get it to work after restarting the Reolink Desktop software, thanks :)
