Yep. I run 2 4Ks2E's for that reason

I just cant justify the cost of the latest AI NVRs and with the reduced bandwidth its just not worth it to me as I run fairly new latest AI cameras.

Let me ask another way.... unless the police are paying for the drives or unless they give you top notch service when you have an incident at the motel, why care about giving them info about an accident that happened maybe a month ago.

Your time is money and to go find something that may have happened a month ago that doesn't impact you or your business takes time unless they can give you the date/time, and if you are not getting anything out of the interaction, then only worry about your own property!

Then let me explain my position - I am paying for the drives for my own benefit and if law enforcement come for help I am always willing to help. I am the watchtower for my neighborhood looking after all my neighbors as well any one passing by.

I was able to briefly remove one of my Synology NAS drives WDRed 14TB and plug in to the NVR and it work. Now I will order one 24TB and if it works then I will get 2nd
 
OK...
a few things:

  • you can add/replace HDDs on NVR.. or move some cams to second one.. or do both things...
  • please remember that there is limit of max size for HDD.. 4ks2 is EOL model, but it receive firmware updates, so it should work up to 20TB sizes...
  • having AI on all cams in case of hotel is for me a must.. no one want to do linear search 24/7 video footage from many cams.. having proper IVS on all cams allows to display all events (short videos) with thumbnails where someone do something on camera view in time order..
  • in case of having full AI and using AI events to browse what happened, having all cams on one NVR allows to do this faster... no need to switch between two NVRs...
  • modern cams and NVR in this scenario can do more. Video Meta Data allows to do search like all people in white t-shirt and black jeans... Or all people with bags.. or blue SUV from Toyota... etc.. AcuPick allows to click on any person on any footage and ask NVR to show all footage of that person (or similar looking people) from other cams..

Video Meta Data to jest bardziej funkcja kamer.. Linia 5 Dahua ja obsługuje (5442 czyli 54IR w sklepie u Andiego)... lub najnowsze 5459 (54PRO) z dualnym oświetleniem (IR + biały).. obydwie bardzo ładnie w nocy łapią...

Jeżeli masz rekorder 5xxx-I lub któryś z XI - to one potrafią dla kilku (zazwyczaj coś koło 4) kanałów dodać tą funkcje dla starszych kamer.. Ale ogólnie to raczej inwestycja w porządne kamery (nie wiem co masz, musiałbyś to opisać)..

Podobnie AcuPick - to funkcja kamer, która finalizowana jest na rejestratorze.. Kamery linia 5.. Tu wymagane są nowsze rejestratory - 5xxx-EI, -EI2, lub dowolny -XI...

Tu masz 2 linki do postów gdzie wrzucałem jak wyglada wynik szukania z Video Meta Data dla aut (dzień/noc) i ludzi/twarzy.. Można wyniki ograniczać do określonych cech...

ps. You must understand that I choose here camera with TELEPHOTO lens / zoom (5442-Z4E, 3-9x optical zoom, 45 - 15 degree horizontal FoV) DESIGNED to capture people/vehicles at some distance. This is NOT a 90-110 or even 180 degrees OVERVIEW...

You have good STARLIGHT / STARVIS cams from 2016/2017.. they are mostly 2 Mpx...
they have IVS which can filter people/vehicles, but it's not at level of today technology...

If you configure properly IVS on all cams and NVR (even -4ks2), you should have thumbnails and short videos of all humans / vehicles in AI Search->IVS menu on NVR...

Result should look similar to my screen shoots from NVR, simply without attributes how humans/vehicles look and ability to search using those attributes (this require more modern Video Meta Data function)..

And with some risk of more false positives than on today cams..

If you wanted to upgrade, there is 5442-S3 (54IR) and 5459-PRO (54PRO)...

First available here: Search: 10 results found for "54ir"
-ZE models have varifocal (optical zoom 0.5-2.0x)...
there are also telephoto version -Z4E (2.0 - 6.0x optical zoom), which works very well for outside / parking lots...

54PRO should be available in two weeks...

I am using IVS on all cameras, and have the thumbnails with video. All AI futures are either by camera or by recorder and everything works really good. I am very happy with my setup and anyone who is coming to me for help is very impressed with setup and quality of the video. The Acupick is very very cool and I would like to have it.

There is newest 5xxx-EI2 recorders (released 2 months ago, I didn't played with it), which are replacing older 5xxx-EI...

they have ability to add AcuPick / Video Meta Data for OLDER 4 cams using processing on NVR...

And supports those functions from newer cams like 54IR or 54PRO without limit ...

you can start simply from upgrading NVR.. select 4 existing cams and add those functions..

and then add some more modern cams (54IR/54PRO) in places where you want more AcuPick / VideoMetaData..

this looks like most cost effective way to migrate over longer time... no big one time investment to replace all system at once...

Andy have a few more versions at different price points - all ends with AI-S2 which means -EI2 (mostly at the end of the list here)
