Well, with today's MS Edge update, it looks like Explorer was removed. The option no longer exists on my Windows 10 laptop. And while Palemoon does work, it is so painfully slow.

- Open Notepad:
- Copy then paste the single line of code below into Notepad:
- CreateObject("InternetExplorer.Application").Visible=true
- Save as OpenIE.vbs
- Make sure the the file name ends in .vbs not .txt, If it ends in .txt you must rename to .vbs
- Create a shortcut to the above file and double-click it anytime you want native Internet Explorer.
Ok, this works. I used to have an IE icon in the right side of the address bar in Edge to use IE mode, but that disappeared with yesterday's update. Good to know one can still use IE
Many older programs rely on the old Trident (HTML-) Engine from IE, even stuff as basic as the old Control Panel. Old browsers are old, so unlike modern browsers where the WebView can be its own component, it's either all or nothing. And since the engine is still required not to break Windows functionality and apps from before 2015, it's still included (but mostly hidden). The whole file manager system is still based on IE. That's also why Device Manager and Control Panel are still there too. Similar to Dahua and Hikvision, Microsoft changed the UI and not the core, and added new features to upgrade its OS. A lot of legacy stuff are hidden.

I looked all through IE settings and can’t find it.
The only mention is a toggle that says something to the effect of “allow IE to be used on certain websites that reuire it” … in other words no manual way to enable IE mode any longer as far as I can tell. And it didn’t work with the various Dahua UI's automatically.
You can add a site to be opened using IE but it expires every 30 days.
This does work...Also saw a tech posting where I guy much braver and more knowledgeable than I tried to downgrade Edge back to the last version and ran into a wall

One of the reasons why I have an older laptop with Win7 on it that is always off and never connected to the internet and only turned on and plugged into my offline switch that my cameras are connected to when I have to make changes.
I strongly encourage anyone that has an old computer laying around to do something similar. I keep all my old gear, so it was just a matter of finally getting to put to good use something that was laying around anyway!
