I wouldn't either, but if they're stuffed up inside a soffit with dielectric grease, they should be fine

True, but we have seen people let them hang and dangle in the open thinking they are waterproof and wonder why the camera craps out in 9 months.

Yes, most don't read the specs. They are weather resistant, not waterproof

As mentioned use Dielectric Grease, I use the factory Dahua coupler along with Coax Seal which is often recommended on this forum. I live in the rainy PNW and I have 5 years 24/7/365 outdoor use on several cameras with zero water issues (knocking on wood). Coax Seal can be found on Ebay in smaller quantities (60" rolls).
